I think what makes mistakes unique is the after thought that comes with it. The retrospective perspective if you will. Because when you are actually making a mistake, no one is acutely aware of it (or we wouldn't be doing it). And I think this after thought is crucial to think things out in a logical non-emotional manner to avoid future problems.

The number of members in this village has crossed 100 now. Congratulations! :) Now coming to the topic. Recently, I got a Variax 700 guitar and I am amazed by what technology can do. Plugged into POD X3 Live through VDI cable, this baby is giving me end-to-end digital signal path, all the way to the PC. The guitars on Variax sound great and since there are no magnetic pickups, there is no hum at all. And yes, there is even an electric sitar model. Highly recommended.
