Autism

As you said, savants are very rare. Mainly, autistic people are low functioning. One theory is that people with autism may have a dysfunctional sensory system. They have senses that are either hypo- or hyperactive. Sensory integration is a neurobiological process ? stimulation from the environment is integrated and interpreted by the brain. If this integration has a problem, it results in a disorder which in turn affects development, information processing, and behavior.

Sensory integration therapy is provided because some people have found that when autistic people have their sensory needs met, then they learn and progress better and are better able to cope with things that happen every day. One of these is Berard Auditory Integration Training (AIT) developed by Dr. Guy B?rard in France. The treatment involves 10 days of listening sessions provided 2 times a day for 30 minutes each session. In order for Berard AIT to be effective, the music used must have certain qualities.

I'm wondering what people think of using this as a treatment method. Obviously, it doesn't cure autism... but there are claims that it decreases autistic-like behaviour. I know there are Muslims who think music is haram. If so, would you go along with this treatment?

I was thinking of proposing a research question in which listening to Quran was investigated... as in, would listening to recitation of the Quran have the same benefits that are proposed?

What do y'all think? :)
