I know we have gone through this before, but i would really like to have a get together in the city once a month to discuss books. Are there any people here that are not only interested but would actually meet up to discuss the book chosen? Come on people! We all read the same books and are conversationalists (read as have strong opinions) so why not commit to meeting up over some coffee. Anyone up for Tuesday April 24? We will choose a book next Friday March 30th - For now i am thinking "A Long Way G... Read More

Movie critics have bashed the movie www.rottentomatoes.com but viewers seem to think otherwise. In deference to the critics, who have some utility sometimes, I opted for the matinee time. But to experience the movie, I am only going to watch it at this theater: www.washingtonpost.com id=796141 I called the box office & there is no need to get tickets in advance. At 1.00, I may have the whole theater to myself. Imagine watching the movie from dif... Read More

By Franklin Lamb Ladies and gentlemen, the bell has sounded for Round Six: Israel vs. Hezbollah. The arena is holding its collective breadth. The outcome is uncertain. To date the score is Hezbollah 5, Israel 0. On the issue of a Civil War in Lebanon, place your bets please. A recent poll in Lebanon suggests deep pessimism about the chances of avoiding another civil war. Plenty of 'wise owls' here think civil war is just a matter of time. No less an oracle than Tarek, the doorman at the Al... Read More

How can anybody justify under any pretense that it is... www.iht.com A German judge has stirred a storm of protest here by citing the Koran in turning down a German Muslim wife's request for a fast-track divorce on the ground that her husband beat her. In a remarkable ruling that underlines the tension between Muslim customs and European laws, the judge, Christa Datz-Winter, said the couple came from a Moroccan cultural milieu in which it is common for husbands to beat their wives. The Koran, she wrote, sanctions such ... Read More

from my JE: Okay so I'm deliriously happy! I just bought the tickets to go see THE POLICE concert!! This will be my first time seeing them live. I have worshipped them since I was 8 yrs old. When they broke up in '86, my obsession continued on with Sting. Sigh...someday I'm going to marry him. Oh did I say that out loud. Anyway, I used to stand in front of the mirror with my bright yellow Walkman and lipsynch to Police songs pretending I was Sting. Hey,I was 10. During my "performances" I would gesture at Andy ... Bowl of Saki for March 23 ALL EARTHLY KNOWLEDGE IS AS A CLOUD COVERING THE SUN.--Hazrat Inayat Khan Commentary by Hazrat Samuel L. Lewis (Sufi Ahmed Murad Chisti): Because these forms arise from thought-shadows. It is the hardening of thought-forms which enables man to produce material objects out of the stuff of the physical sphere. The mental and physical cannot be dissociated in this, but the process which enables the mind to work is supermental. That real knowledge comes when mind is tuned to heart... Read More
