What Happened at Beit Hanoun Call It What It Is: a Massacre By URI AVNERY "Thank God for the American elections," our ministers and generals sighed with relief. They were not rejoicing at the kick that the American people delivered to George W. Bush's butt this week. They love Bush, after all. But more important than the humbling of Bush is the fact that the news from America pushed aside the terrible reports from Beit Hanoun. Instead of making the headlines, they were relegated to the bottom of ... Read More

In the hopes of resurrecting this village, i would like to post something that might get us debating again... now that donald rumsfeld has gotten the boot, do you think that we will see any major changes in prisoner treatment and abuse, or is rumsfeld's successor, as the media claims, essentially his ideological twin? is it unrealistic to be hopeful at this point?

to work-out? a brief history: after i decided that, despite the nearly free access to my alma maters gym facilities, i needed a gym closer to home. i began going to healthworks on the boston/brookline line some years ago and actually enjoyed the experience. i had a personal trainer, amanda, and made some great strides. unfortunately, even brookline is a bit far from my home and my logic was such that, if it took so much effort just to get to the gym, why not just save my money and use the physical exerti... Coupe de Saki pour le 15 novembre La sagesse n'est pas dans les mots, elle est dans la compr?hension. -- Hazrat Inayat Khan Commentaire par Hazrat Samuel L. Bowl of Saki for November 15 WISDOM IS NOT IN WORDS, IT IS IN UNDERSTANDING.--Hazrat Inayat Khan Commentary by Hazrat Samuel L. Lewis (Sufi Ahmed Murad Chisti): As words are caused by breaks in the transmission of energy, they cannot possibly be of the nature of light and they can more certainly be of the nature of shadow. Wisdom is pure light which can flash steadily through the eyes or atmosphere of a personality. It contains all it would convey as a unity which cannot be readily analyzed. Yet it can... Read More

IM Currently in Karachi, Recently one of I lost around 4000 Rs and mobile phone. However, we must not classify Karachi as a unique city where this happens. It is common to get robbed and mugged almost all over the world. Let us hope and pray that Karachi becomes the same safe city it used to be as I remember in my childhood when boundary walls were low and gates were see through without any sheets.

Slavoj Zizek - Are we in a war? Do we have an enemy? When Donald Rumsfeld designated the imprisoned Taliban fighters 'unlawful combatants' (as opposed to 'regular' prisoners of war), he did not simply mean that their criminal terrorist activity placed them outside the law: when an American citizen commits a crime, even one as serious as murder, he remains a 'lawful criminal'. The distinction between criminals and non-criminals has no relation to that between 'lawful' citizens and the people referred to in F... Read More
