  • By Altaf Husain ? USA With the increasing inclination of Muslims to begin practicing Islam starting in their preteen years, there has been a concurrent rise in the numbers of Muslims who wish to marry young. It is not uncommon to find Muslims marrying while they are completing their undergraduate degree or soon after graduation. No matter how early one starts to think about marriage, there is resounding agreement that choosing a life partner is indeed a choice of a lifetime. Are you thinking about ma... Read More

  • #1.Have you ever let go of someone you loved? #2.Did it happen all of a sudden? #3.Were you prepared for it? #4. Did you want it to happen? #5. Were you the one letting go or the one who was let go? And yet, a famous poet, Alfred Lord Tennyson, once wrote, "'It's better to have loved and lost than to ha... Read More

  • Whether the law is enforced or latent remains unclear. Despite the argument brought forward by all administrations since 2004, Muslim women have not been ?protected? ?as many MP?s have argued- by this law but rather, have been urged to choose between their education and their religious beliefs. In other words, they have to choose between an active social life and exclusion. The anti veil hysteria has virtually faced no opposition in the non Muslim sector in France. Not one single political party dared to go a... Read More

  • In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful The intuition of perceiving the existence of the Creator is inborn in human nature. It is the intuitive ability to distinguish between right and wrong, true and false. It is the human being?s instinctive realization of Allah?s existence and oneness, and his self surrender to Allah SWT. The Qur?an refers to this innate tendency as follows: ''Therefore set your face (O Muhammad) steadfastly towards the true faith, turning away from all that is false, in acco... Read More

  • * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Gossip serves no useful purpose, it is devoid of function. Its effects are devastating upon both the perpetrators of this evil practice as well as the intended targets. It destroys individuals/families/communities. Gossip is employed to elevate the self against others, it is thus a self-exalting form of communication. It may also be used to deride/humiliate/insult/abuse those considered to be of inferior race/creed/nationality/faith. The latter type of... Read More

  • Salam All: This village has been dead for a while. What is the purpose? I have lived in SF for over a year now. While I have met a handful of really cool muslims locally, I would not mind meeting more :) Anyone interested in coordinating a coffee hour in the coming weeks for this village? We can pick a central location in SF and meet may be one of early Sunday eve's? Any takers? If not, let it continue to stay dead :)

    May 5, 2009 at 7:55pm
Sehrjaan - thanks for the interest. Lets see if we can get a few more people who are interested in meeting up. There are tons of places we can choose from :)

  • The Tank: Pushy and ruthless, loud and forceful, or with the quiet intensity and surgical precision of a laser, the Tank assumes that the end justifies the means. If you are in the way, you will be eliminated. The Sniper: This covert operator resents you for some reason. Instead of getting mad, he or she gets even by identifying your weaknesses and using them against you, through sabotage, gossip and putdowns. The Grenade: This person explodes in tantrums that seem disproportionate to the present circ... Read More

  • The following story was forwarded to me. It was a busy morning, about 8:30, when an elderly gentleman in his 80s arrived to have stitches removed from his thumb. He said he was in a hurry as he had an appointment at 9:00. I took his vital signs and had him take a seat, knowing it would be over an hour before someone would be able to see him. I saw him looking at his watch and decided since I was not busy with another patient, I would evaluate his wound. On examining it I saw it was well healed, so... Read More

  • This article might be of interests to many of you. Could you please tell me what is the ideal way to find a partner (wife) or how did the Prophet?s Companions find their wives? This Question is answered by Sheikh Ahmad Kutty, a senior lecturer and an Islamic scholar at the Islamic Institute of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. He states: In sha? Allah, if the focus of your question is directed towards the ways of finding a wife in the West or North America, I would recommend the following: 1. You may atten... Read More
