I have seen that a lot of biotech startups are heavily staffed with local university faculty, scientists and students. It has been seen as is the case with university research parks at Stanford University, U. Wisconsin and MIT are highly successful in kick starting biotech startups. I think it is a great synergy between large universities, academic medical centers and small scale biotech to develop cutting edge medical products.
