Israeli Mother Addresses European Parliament by Nurit Peled-Elhanan Thank you for inviting me to this today. It is always an honour and a pleasure to be here, among you (at the European Parliament). However, I must admit I believe you should have invited a Palestinian woman at my stead, because the women who suffer most from violence in my county are the Palestinian women. And I would like to dedicate my speech to Miriam R`aban and her husband Kamal, from Bet Lahiya in the Gaza strip, whose five small chil... Read More

A Soldier's Story by MAJOR BILL EDMONDS noquarter.typepad.com [Note from Larry Johnson: A CIA buddy forwarded this article. It is a must read. It is consistent with what I saw on the ground in Iraq when I was there in June. I discovered that the our focus on counter terrorism--i.e. kicking in doors and killing suspected terrorists--was counterproductive and not diminishing the violence in Iraq. Sometimes we were right but sometimes we were wrong. When we... Read More

Is anyone here a certified personal trainer? If so, through which organization did you get certified? I want to get certified by early spring 2007 and have been researching different orgs (ACSM, NSCA, ACE, IFFA). I'm trying to figure out which one would be the least costly, but still well respected.
December 24, 2006 at 4:55pmISSA is most cost effective, plus it is home study course.

"The Song of the Reed" 1. Listen to the reed and the tale it tells, how it sings of separation: 2. Ever since they cut me from the reed bed, my wail has caused men and women to weep. 3. I want a heart that is torn open with longing so that I might share the pain of this love. 4. Whoever has been parted from his source longs to return to that state of union. 5. At every gathering I play my lament. I'm a friend to both happy and sad. 6. Each befriended me for his own reasons, yet none... Read More

I had never heard of this until my father sent me an email on it, but this week's khutbah mentioned it as well. I figured it was worth sharing the email in case others had not heard about it and because the speaker at Jummah said that these days could be more beneficial than the last ten of Ramadan. ---------------------- How do the first ten days of the Month of Dhul Hijjah (12th month of the Islamic Calendar) differ from other days of the year? Do you know of someone who refuses to donate? So, what is/was the reason for that person to not donate? Again, the purpose of this community is not to point fingers, but to understand the naysayers and give them something that they need.
