What are your ideas for writing?

Can anyone share information about how to get something published?

Can anyone share ideas about the steps involved in the sequence of getting this done?

We need to take ideas from the idea phase into reality, and a nudge in the right direction would be helpful.

THANKS AND WELCOME!

One of my goals in life has been to write and publish a book. My ideas:

1. Initially have thought to recruit writers for a book about Muslims raised in the West. I wanted to compile a chapter each from each writer about their experiences growing up here, a selective autobiography; so non-Muslims can relate to us and understand the avg Muslim better and break down negative stereotypes.

2. see if naseeb will allow a compilation of JEs of quality writers to be published, afterall it would help their 'business' by this 'advertising'... and if a book such as that 'Excerpts from naseeb.com. Perspectives of Muslims' was published i'm sure it would be intriguing to the public.

3. compile a listing of peoples' positive experiences related to Islam, ex. Hajj Excerpts (i've already written up mine)

Hyperion (in NYC) is looking for an editorial intern:

I'm beginning my search for a fall Editorial intern. The Hyperion editorial internship is a good one: Hyperion is very small, as those of you who used to work here know, so our interns do a lot of real and often fun work. I'm looking for a committed, very smart, hardworking person who is a junior or senior -- someone with definite editorial plans for the future and the ability to do an internship for school credit. Perhaps you have a cousin or brother or sister or friend or friend of a friend's cousin, brother, sister, etc. who fits this bill. If so, I would love it if you'd let them know of this opportunity. Ideally the intern would be available 2 or more days/week. If you could forward this to anyone you think might be interested, I would be eternally grateful.

Thanks!

I thought that a journal capturing publishing tips would be useful. Have any tips you wan to pass on to the rest of us aspiring writers? Put them here!

I found a web site for self-publishing, but don't know anyone who has actually used it. lulu.com) They act as a community for writers and those who assist writers, so take a look and let us know what you think.

Aapajan: I'd love to be a part of such a Chicken Soup for the Muslim Soul- as long as the chicken's halal, of course. As far as publishing tips go, I don't have any, but someone suggested that for the book I'm working on (more details later), there should be a companion DVD. Lulu doesn't seem to do this yet, nor does Cafepress. Does anyone know of someone who would do this? Thank you!

aapajan: i can think of some duas and quranic ayahs that could be part of a 'muslim comfort' series , if that is what you had in mind.

i also thought of compiling select naseeb JEs (with the authors' permission of course) and writing up 'excerpts from naseeb.com , an online muslim social network' . what do yall think about that? ( my purpose is to get non-muslims to peek into our minds and see how we think and to dispel their stereotypes of muslims)

I've already written about mine.

1. Has anyone else written a chapter?
2. Know of anyone else who has or would write it up? Couple pple have, ie zhny, and abubigbird i believe.
3. Which audience would it be more of a service to? Target Muslims or non-Muslims? This makes a difference when seeking publishers.

Whaddya all think about compiling a book titled 'Excerpts from naseeb.com: an insight into the Online Muslim community' ?

1. Interesting idea?
2. Think naseeb will allow it?
3. Think it would be popular in the non-Muslim community to give insight into Muslim views
4. How to make it happen?
5. I'd like to screen and decide which JEs are accepted; ie have editor priveleges...

I've already thought of some writers' JEs that would be interesting for the public to read; and some are in this very village :)
