Sadness, an anathema to most people. Even I have mutiny going on inside of myself about whether or not I consider myself to be sad. When I look towards exploring my rather extreme reaction of why I feel this way, I think that perhaps it has something to do with the word 'sadness/being sad' itself. You see, to say "I feel sad." sounds pretty comical and fairly prosaic. Not very imaginative at all. And certainly nothing to warrant any attention from anybody, even oneself.

So I figure I'll replace the word 'sad' with others. How about sorrow, misery, despair, despondency, grief, and just generally being glum?

I remember once somebody asking a friend of mine for her to describe me. She said I was "vulnerable". Later on, when I found out that that was her chosen word for me I felt myself baulk. I caught myself literally flinching from this description. After all, doesn't vulnerability imply being exposed, wounded, weak?
Later on I confronted her about this. She said that she considered me to be vulnerable because I was so sad. I was.

So, admittedly, I was pretty sad. But I'd like to make everybody aware of my very strongly heartfelt disdain at the presumption that this implies weakness.
I take exception at this.

I find that sadness is a fascinating emotion. It truly strikes awe in me to see it manifest itself in people. It is one of life's most debilitating impediments to deal with. But strangely, fascinatingly, awe strikingly, evocatively it is something that inspires conviction. It compels people. It brings forth strength to do our jobs in spite of how debilitated we feel. It gives us the strength to execute our days from start to finish in spite of sometimes not feeling like we're enjoying breathing. It strengthens us to the extent that we engineer opportunities for others to grow from within our pitched out midst.

It is compelling and nothing to be ashamed of.

I'm not being critical - but that sounds like depression

maybe you should see a therapist --- there could be something at the root of your feelings that won't allow you to confront happiness

on the other hand --- maybe you're so use to being sad, that your body won't let you be happy, just because one got so use to the sadness (as crazy as that sounds - but I know was stuck in that rutt a few weeks ago) --- if that's the case, then just brush it off and embrace the happiness -- it takes practice, but it'll happen ---- does that help?

Here is my story : There is something inside of me that just wont let me be happy completely and I feel it holds me back all the time in everything I do.
As soon as there is a moment when I feel like I'm happy, I start getting sad because I feel like this happiness will go away and thus lose the moment altogether.
Does that make sense???

when im sad, i think about ppl that are more worse off than me... some guy on the street with no leg, someone born deformed...somone that has no parents and no siblings, someone that has cancer, aids, whatever... and feeling guilty though, I feel a bit better.

I was very very sad

I still get sad, but I'm trying to brush it off -- I really don't wanna be sad anymore

I'm starting to feel real happy again, so I'm just trying to ride that wave as much as possible

it's nice to be here because I don't feel alone

:)

I remember way back there was a village called "depression" and nobody joined it because it was considered "taboo". I guess this village is a notch or two below it for when you are down even it if is temporarily and just feel like sharing your thoughts, venting, etc...

Also, what on earth compelled you to have a "so-sad" village?
