I had watched it ...and I did come across it again recently at a movie rental place, and am definitely going to purchase it :).
Has anyone seen it???

has added a new journalOk so I won't make any comments about this village being dead, since I'm as responsible as anyone else for that.
But since its been a while since anyone posted I thought I'd see what's out there.
A few good flicks (how could you not like Transformers) the whole Cult of Harry Potter (did you guys catch the whole NYT sh!tstorm?)and on the small screen Lost and BSG are almost back. So good times on the horizon.
On the other hand Gala's last post on the negativity associated with SciFi is undeniable. There is a lot of crapola scifi out there, I watched the atrociously bad Ultraviolet last night, so maybe it deserves the bad wrap.
As for you guys what was the most innovative or new idea in scifi/fantasy you've come across? What represents the best of the genre for you? Movie/book/game whatever. I'll even discuss haiku, and you know how much I hate poetry ;)

sounds like a good idea .... lets hope it works out ... even though the premise of that period will be very much completely without Jedi, which is, to me at least, one essential ingredient in SW magic ..I think I would be more interested in more story lines set before the first episode of SW ... before the whole thing started.

no not star wars ... not sure it would work out .... it depends a lot on the tech effects which are very extensive ...

I see nothing wrong with sci-fi, its those without imagination who can't deal with it! LOL! =) HE HE HE,I can't seem to talk any of my friends into going to see the new Star Trek movie, what is up with that!!! =(

Anyone read Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer?bookworm_chica
...interestingly and imaginatively written...---hmmm, these descriptions are so mundane... but the books were definitely UNIQUE...it was a melange of styles...one minute like a simple fairy tale...the next a deep metaphysical paper was being written.
..The closest I can come to describing the feeling I had after reading these books is feeling a bit unreal after watching the Matrix movie for the first time...I do adore the movie and regardless of the fact I believed in the views that were expressed in it or not...I really appreciated the artistic merit and how well it got its message across to the masses...
It was clearly a critique of some sort on the religious establishment...some may even recognize it as Existentialistic beliefs that were introduced discussing on mankind's independent journey toward melding with the universes....or maybe an Atheistic view was portrayed that there is no God/Authority figure...but still in the end it discussed the universal force of love that achieves the goal of happiness and peace...
What struck me the most was the fact these views are introduced in such a manner that are very easily digestible and I kept thinking how would a young mind form new views on life, creation and God... keeping in mind, these books were written for children... quite an effective tool to get those points across...

has added a new journalHey all you SciFi junkies, I'm not sure this village is still active or not - here's hoping it is. Haven't seen a lot of interaction here so I thought we could maybe get a discussion going on what are your favorite scifi films or the ones that you think were most influential for the genre. My personal favorites have to be Star Trek II (in no small part due to the fact that the lead villain shared my last name), Contact (a great piece of hard scifi) and Aliens(often imitated). Would love to hear what you guys like and why - just please don't recommend Howard the Duck. Everyone associated with that film and anyone who saw it should be down in Guantanamo wearing orange jump suits.

You're right. I do need to hang out with cooler gals. It's not that they aren't well-read; they just prefer different genres altogether. Maybe that's why I have so many guy friends.Hey, you single guys could do your part and remember to expose your future wives/daughters to it. LOL

Elyria, everyone I know has heard of Asimov, and most have read something or other by him. You just need to hang out with cooler people. ;)I agree with the rest, especially the need to get more gals into this genre. :)
