Allah did not ordain polygamy as a normal way of life, however, multiple marriages are allowed in Islam only in certain circumstances.
A man is supposed to marry only one woman, but, only under certain very strict rules and circumstances is allowed to marry more, with a limit placed on four.
(Even the Holy Prophet PBUH stated to men, that you will only be able to love one).
Multiple marriages are not the norm in Islam but rather the exception for certain practical purposes.
Please read the holy Quran again!
May Allah guide us all in the true direction. Ameen.

The Quran in Surah Nisa, mentions "Marry two, three or four and if you fear you cannot do justice between them, marry only one". The condition of allowing it, is relating to justice - in equal time and money. Wives have the right to separate dwellings and to have their rights fulfilled. Its an immense responsibility for men which is probably why so few choose it.Nowhere, have I seen that the prophet pbuh said you will only be able to love one woman.
Polygyny is meant for practical purposes - for the protection and welfare of women. Even, in many developed societies, where there is no war, there is still more women compared to men. In the US, there are 8m more women than men. That means if every single man got married (which would never happen, due to the number of men in prison, who are gay, unemployed, etc) there would be 8m women forced to be single and childless. Polygyny allows a safety net for society, by giving women greater choice of men, while Islam ensures that their rights are fulfilled. We see in our own societies, the number of women forced into prostitution or women who cannot find husbands because of the lack of men.
So I challenge anyone who says it is not permissible, to go back and actually understand what was meant. I am commenting not because I desire polygyny, but simply its a VERY dangerous path when we start making the halaal into haraam, and vice versa as the nations before us did.

has added a new journalPolygamist Judge Ordered Off Utah Bench
By DEBBIE HUMMEL
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A small-town judge with three wives was ordered removed from the bench by the Utah Supreme Court on Friday.
The court unanimously agreed with the findings of the state's Judicial Conduct Commission, which recommended the removal of Judge Walter Steed for violating the state's bigamy law.
Steed has served for 25 years on the Justice Court in the polygamist community of Hildale in southern Utah, where he ruled on such matters as drunken driving and domestic violence cases.
The commission last year sought his removal from the bench after a 14-month investigation determined Steed was a polygamist and had violated Utah's bigamy law. Bigamy is a third-degree felony in Utah punishable by up to five years in prison and up to $5,000 in fines.
Steed scheduled a news conference for Friday afternoon to discuss the ruling.
The initial complaint against him was filed in 2003 by Tapestry Against Polygamy, a group founded by women who had left the secretive colonies.
Steed legally married his first wife in 1965, according to court documents. The second and third wives were married - or ``sealed'' as the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints refers to it - to him in religious ceremonies in 1975 and 1985. The three women are sisters.
Plural marriage was an original tenet of the mainline Mormon church, but the faith abandoned the practice in 1890. About 30,000 polygamists, who split from the main church into various fundamentalist sects, are believed to be living in Utah, the Southwest, Mexico and Canada.

has added a new journalThe ratio of adultery and fornication in non-islamic societies is still much higher than polygamy among muslims ... It is obvious that one man may commit adultery or fornication with a woman and another and another ... So why not encourage your husband to marry again ? ..... As you all know I am in a polygamous marriage and I see nothing wrong with encouraging my husband to marry again .... I say this because in the past I have been viewed as weird and sometimes out of my mind .... but this is what I think ... I think Allah has blessed me with a very good ... kind and wonderful husband who ... performs his duties as a husband beyond my expectations and I say to myself this life we're living on earth is a test for us to make it onto the next life .... THE REAL LIFE .... Junnah ... Inshallah
When I was growing up .. my mom would always say "What you want for yourselves you should always want for others" and I never really paid much attention to the real meaning of these words until now ... So I say why not encourage my husband to marry again ? .... Why shouldn't another sister who's not married and looking for a good husband be not blessed with my husband ? Or any other good husband for that matter.
So I post the question ... Is their anything wrong with encouraging our husbands to marry again?
masooma3333
Well I'd say no, if it is in the best interest of everyone involved and everyone would be happy with it and well-served by it, and of course if doing so is still within the halal limits, -- that is disregarding any legal issues.Login to find out
has added a new journalI would like to know .... why is same sex marriages being legalized and not polygamy?
masooma3333
that happened in Canada recently actually.Smiley13939
Although same-sex marriage may be disturbing to those of us who have moral values which prohibit homosexuality, legalization can actually have a positive effect. If the legal definition of marriage is expanded beyond the "one man one woman" model, it would be easy for a person to argue the legality of polygamy in the courts.masooma3333
Canada is actually moving to legalize polygamy, too, for those whom it is religiously permissible. It isn't happening here because Islam and polygamy are not politically correct and en vogue while homosexuality is......
