International Pashtoon Society - IPS

link

Group Info Name: The International Pashtoon Society-IPS

Type: Organizations - Non-Profit Organizations

Description: The International Pashtoon Society was founded in an effort to unite the Pashtoon community locally and globally, and to one day link all international and local
Pasthoon organizations into ONE unit. Locally we hope to indulge members of our community into mentor programs, help to expand an existing Pashto School in Falls
Church, offer community service, and to organize and support fundraisers for the betterment of our community back home.

Our vision is to create a haven for the growing Pastho community here in the United States. Our Organization will help in assimilating the Pashtoon?s in this culture,
while still retaining theirs. Language is a way of expanding horizons and learning about one?s culture, as an effort to encourage reading, writing, and speaking skills we would like to continue to expand our efforts by offering free Pashto classes.

With the help of our community our organization would like to host events, whether it be educational, entertainment or just social gatherings to enlighten the youth about our rich culture and traditions.

UPDATE 04/25/08

As you all already know we have a FREE Pashto school in Falls Church, Virginia. That has been hosted and organized by a group called ?Afghan Meli Tolana? our mission these days is to expand the academy so it is readily available to anyone in the public. Unfortunately the space this school makes use of, will no longer be available to us.

However, everyone including, my dear friend Palwasha who teaches children at the school, are trying their utmost best to find a location as soon as possible so that their students don?t miss class. In the past when no location has been available these teachers have laid a blanket over a parking lot to continue teaching.

You all are probably wondering why this particular project is so important to us. Well its simply because, we want the Pashtoon children living in the west to be able to appreciate and retain their culture, and once they know how beautiful it is and how beautiful our people are and that they depend on our help for basic necessities, that are openly available to us here, such as education, good welfare, good medical care so forth.

And believe me these children here are one day going to be the one?s extend their support for the betterment of our community back home.

I am requesting, members of this group who live in the Metropolitan area to please inform us if anyone is willing to give these kids a class room space on a continuos basis.

Why are there only three journals on a PATHAN village?!??? Am I dreaming? Come on people, where are all the hot-tempered rantings??? The complaints about anything/everything?!? The bragging about how everything in Pekhawar is more awesome than it is here? True Pathans speak up! :) One Love!

And get the f@ck out of this village, this village is for Pukhtuns and you clearly hate Pukhtuns. First find out who you are then create your own little world and rot in it.

Khan001

Bacteria, you just hurled insults at everyone in the village and ran away with your tail between your legs and did not even stay to take the heat like a man. I don't know how you came to the conclusion that Pukhtuns are homosexuals, you must have had a bad "personal" experience but we Pushtuns are very good and Allah fearing people.

What exactly does the name of this village mean? And which language is this- Pakhto, Urdu?Or some dumb concoction by someone who likes to call himself/herself pakhtoon but doesn't know what pakhto or pukhto and pashto is all about and cannot speak the language?

Do you mean 'pakhtoonwali'?
Never heard of the word 'pakhtoonwalla'
Even more stupid was the one called 'pathanilounge'

I agree with you bushra, I haven't seen many pushtoons who will get offended by "pathan".

question is what is pakhto--dont we all say that?

Dont we also say pukhtoonwal when we are refering to some pukhtoon person "sook pukhtoon wal de"

Actually many pukhtoons refer to themselves as pathans..only a handful are aware of the history pukhtoons and the word pathans.

Oh and to expand on my last comment, there are also a ton of hindko speakers that aren't pathan but live in the same area as pathans that do speak hindko and have adapted the language as their own. Like I said in my previous post, regardless of what language you speak, your lineage is the ultimate factor in determining whether or not you're pathan. I've met a lot of people w/the last name Khan that weren't pathans because the name has become so generic but none of them can claim to be pathan because they lack the lineage (our ancestry traces back to Afghanistan and possibly Iran, not India).

Yeah bushra us hindko speakers are pathan - language doesn't mean anything. Everyone in my dad's family speaks both pushto and hindko. It all comes down to whether or not you're pathan by blood and can identify your lineage.
