Non-Conformists

Are you in a profession other than medicine, business/IT consulting? Are you single and childless past your expiration date (25 for girls, 30 or so for boys)? Is your complexion insufficiently 'wheatish'? If you are chubby, gay, a poor student or otherwise atypical, I want to hear from you. This village is for non-conformists and people who think they are cool.

to stem any controversy, lemme lay out the point of creating this village right off the bat.

as i have gotten to know more desis outside of my family over the past few years, i have discovered that i am not the only SA out there who feels like a 'black sheep' or like they don't fit in with their traditional society sometimes. this has been very reassuring to me and has improved my feelings about the SA diaspora experience as a whole.

now if this sounds like some ABCD talk, i want to make it clear that i'm not really aiming for kids the kids that are struggling to define themselves (though i have been there). this village is for people who have already made the choice to stray from the beaten path somehow and are now perfectly happy with the decisions they have made/the person they are.

i was just wondering how many of such individuals exist here and who would be willing to declare their non-conformist status semi-publicly. really, i want people to join just to give me a rough sampling and head count. no one has to post here unless they have something they particularly want to talk about.

*oh, and this isn't to imply that people who do choose to become doctors or get married younger are lemmings of some sort. i only want to provide some encouragement - a pat on the back, if you will - to those who choose to live their lives in unconventional ways despite enormous cultural pressure to do otherwise.
