"Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars." - Kahlil Gibran

Yembarzal is a quarterly magazine launched to raise the voices and experiences of young writers and people from and in the Kashmir Valley.

The name "Yembarzal" was chosen with great prudence. Yembarzal factually means Daffodil or Narcissus. Narcissi represent spring and new beginnings more precisely hope and new life. In literary terms, Narcissus refers to reflection, self-love and self-esteem. These are themes that are central to the purpose of Yembarzal. In a time where experiences, memories and whole lives have been over turned and shadowed by conflict and war; it is our hope, the prospect of new life and an undying self-love for; and esteem in our people, our land, our culture, our traditions and above all the desire for equality and peaceful existence that has motivated a small professional group of scattered Kashmiri's to make this new beginning to chart our past, present and future.

Our aim is simple; to deliver a successful, vibrant, informative, multi-disciplinary confluence of contemporary reality in Kashmir today which resonates for different communities of people around the globe. We hope to provide a medium that moves beyond direct news reporting of conflict to providing a reflective and analytical magazine of socio-political processes.
