What was your worst or most memorable UNIX mishap.

I accidentally deleted my /dev and /etc directories on my Sun 3/50 by typing "rm * .txt" instead of "rm *.txt".

So how to fix it? A simple reinstall, right? Well guess what?
The 3/50 had no removable media at all, and my only other computer at the time was a Mac LC.

I had to bring my disk into school (Temple U) and boot the thing off of a network, then dd a boot tape to the swap partition, then boot off of that and perform a restore over the network, since all I had was 141 megs of storage.


I also accidentally overwrote a passwd file on a production VAX server at the department of veteran's affairs datacenter during a penetration test. We had to reconstruct it from xterminal buffers...
