Who really did it?
I'm not likely to waste any tears on Pierre Gemayel, after all he was phalange, on top of the fact that he wanted to sell Lebanon to its enemies.
The real tragedy is that the media deliberatley don't ask all the most obvious questions, while at the same time giving credit to the counter intuitive scenarios. And whats an even bigger tragedy, and a testament to our society, is that majority of the American and European public is going consume this whole heartedly without engaging a shred of intellect. Still, what can you expect when The Sun (for the non Brits, this is a paper that promotes soft porn and usually runs a front page story about something insanely stupid) is Britains biggest selling newpaper, and i'm sure the US doesn't dp much better.
How on earth would this assasination benefit Syria when it is trying to build ties with lebanon, Iraq and the international communtiy? Why would they do this knowing they are in the spotlgiht and already being investigated for assasination? In what crazy scenario would Syria want such backlash from one of its closest allies?! As for Hizbullah, why would they want to forment secterian divisions, which clearly this action was planned to do, when they have managed to breal down these boudaries and pull much of Lebanon behind them? Why would they want to enbcourage a backlash when their popularity is at an all time high?
On the other hand who would benefit from these reprecussions? Who is reeling from a failed attempt to destroy Hizbullah? Who inadvertantly strengthened Hizbullahs postion and needs to correct this? Who would benefit from plunging Lebanon back into civil war, and who would revel at an excuse to reoccupy Lebanon? If you want motive you got it. You want means, you got it too. I mean it's hardly out of character for israelis is it now, given their track record. Their government openly advocates assasination as a policy. The use of torture is legal. They are known for meddling in other peoples countries. What more do you want?

"Bachir Gemayel, the greatest Lebanese leader of our lifetime and one who commands infinitely more respect than your boy Hassouna."
Blah-de-blah-de-blah-blah. Get into the real world.
A democracy? HAH! You're funny.
i think it's safe to say that you're a big Zionism supporter and a disgrace to your own.
stop building your theories on lies, illusions and nonsense, it will lead you nowhere and eventually the truth will out. may god lead you on the right path before it's too late.
As always, what you write leaks like a sieve but by now I have learnt to just smile when you blame everything on the enemies of Israel.
By the way, have you been reading Fisk's articles lately? You used one a few weeks back - since you are now accepting his views, perhaps you should post the rest?
"what would be the best way of undermining the new and boastful power of the pro-Syrian Hizbollah, the Shia guerrilla army which has demanded the resignation of Siniora's cabinet? By killing a government minister, knowing that many Lebanese would blame the murder on Syria's Hizbollah allies?"
they have been doing these kinds of things forever.
There is a hand of shadowy snake in this story.
