Who Is Your Hero?

I was watching a television talk show today, and the interviewer asked a question that got me thinking. She asked who is your hero? I thought of this question and did not have to think twice about who my hero is...
My hero is my mom. A few years ago I would not have said that, I probably would have picked my father. But today when the question came up mom popped in my mind. I had to think of the reason and I thought that she is the invisible force in our family. She is usually the quiet one in the home, not one to talk, yet she is always there for everyone. When one of her children are the most upset and disturbed, mom knows and always lends an ear without a word. She always has the answer for situations and has the soft skills to diffuse situations. She is constantly on duty, never for a minute letting her mom satellite rest. In the middle of the night if you are not well, somehow mom is also awake and happens to knock on your door. Her needs and wants are pushed aside for the needs and wants of her family. She will go without so her children, even grown up children, can have. She just knows everything we are feeling without us saying a word. As I have gotten older, the value of my mother has become clearer. Today I can proudly say, that when I have children, I want to be a mother just like MY mother. My mother is my hero.

Who is your hero and why?

My hero is the prophet (pbuh). He has done so much and has handled him so well in all the situatons I can never imagine.
Secondly...I admire the palestinians and iraqis who fight with honor just for their right to exist......the palestinian children who go from checkpont to checkpont each day just for their right to have an education....the Iraqis who just try to support their families despite the millions of hardships they have been going through all these years and especially now

nice.. 'She is constantly on duty, never for a minute letting her mom satellite rest' makes your mum sound like she trained in the military!

my relationship with my mom has been odd. Ive always loved her, but I always felt there was not enough of her to go around. When my sister got married, I got more of mom and I have grown to depend on her a lot more then I used to. Its just weird how she just knows everything, for example one day during ramadan I woke up for sehri and i was literally walking around with my eyes more then half closed, I got to the fridge and started poking around for the left over fruitchaat, and my mom says the container is on the counter. I was kinda shocked cause I did not say what I was looking for and she just knew. Moms are weird

I totally agree with you. Now that I'm a mother myself, I appreicate my mom soooooooo much more. I don't think I could even be half as good a mom as mine was to me. I called her up a couple of times and apologize for all the mean and hurtful things I said or did to her. She just laughed and said, its ok...thats what kids do :)
