This world eats men and women; we become
ground, and yet God sends us here to eat
the whole universe. Earth tries to work
a sorcery on us saying tomorrow, tomorrow,
but we outwit that spell by enjoying this
now. Say we were born from invisible beings
that gather in the middle of the night. Say
that's why we love the night so. We love,
and taste the wine of being human, as fish
drink the ocean. Do you think that alters
the sea? Sea and see: how one values the
Beloved depends on the state of the lover.
