what's new and how new is it?

Ok so I won't make any comments about this village being dead, since I'm as responsible as anyone else for that.

But since its been a while since anyone posted I thought I'd see what's out there.

A few good flicks (how could you not like Transformers) the whole Cult of Harry Potter (did you guys catch the whole NYT sh!tstorm?)and on the small screen Lost and BSG are almost back. So good times on the horizon.

On the other hand Gala's last post on the negativity associated with SciFi is undeniable. There is a lot of crapola scifi out there, I watched the atrociously bad Ultraviolet last night, so maybe it deserves the bad wrap.

As for you guys what was the most innovative or new idea in scifi/fantasy you've come across? What represents the best of the genre for you? Movie/book/game whatever. I'll even discuss haiku, and you know how much I hate poetry ;)

sounds like a good idea .... lets hope it works out ... even though the premise of that period will be very much completely without Jedi, which is, to me at least, one essential ingredient in SW magic ..

I think I would be more interested in more story lines set before the first episode of SW ... before the whole thing started.

no not star wars ... not sure it would work out .... it depends a lot on the tech effects which are very extensive ...

don't know. heard anything about the star wars serials that are supposed to come to television?

yea usually the weriters get really creative near the end when they are not under that much pressure to tone it down ...
am wondering if someone will decide to one day make show out of Harry Potter ...

DS9 was great. I think the writing got a lot better when Next Generation wrapped up. Loved almost every episode in Next Gen's last two seasons.

yes Babylon 5 was another show with too much drama and soap in it.
but still the core story was interesting. but anyhow, DS9 is my favorite space station show.

i did watch babylon 5, i really couldn't get into it though. Some of my favorite trek episodes were more story driven, but maybe I'm more forgiving of trek...

yea the action scenes are awesome, but then you have to go and sit for hours through mind numbing political and psycho crapp ...
I think that was the same problem that hampered Babylon 5 if you ever watched it ..

maybe ;), but a big starship jumping through space to avoid killer androids while engaging in space dog fights meets my minimal criteria for scifi!

some vulcans can and did in the past ...

well I think its like you said in the other JE, scifi really is a dirty word, if they don't want to call it that they don't have to... but a leopard can't change its spots and a vulcan most definitely cant' change his ears

I never really saw Space Above but BSG is ok. I did not like it in the beginning because it seamed to me more like a soap opera than a sci-fi action show. I still do not take it seriously as sci-fi neither do the creator of the show.

but I heard they are working on a movie for BSG

the roast was hilarious! at least he can take a joke! but I've heard that the Shat can be totally insufferable...

on an unrelated note i picked up the one and only season of Space Above & Beyond, its amazing how many elements, mostly design and atmosphere are mirrored in BSG. Not to dog BSG, but Ron Moore should at least acknowledge the show at some point

George actually is kinda funny ... did you see the Shatner Roast on Comedy Central? that was hilarious ...

I remember long time ago I attended a convention "yes I admit it" ... and you have to see all the hatred for Shatner ... and these were ST hard core fans .. they hate him with passion ...
I even met with his X-Fan club president ... she said she left because he was so damn annoying ...

Poor Shat, no love there eh? I think George Takei was there as well if that helps at all. But that was 10 large i don't have let alone have to burn

Ford will be play an old grey Indie.

My brother almost convinced me to fly out to LA for a huge Trekfest where for 10Gs you get dinner with the Shat.

I can't believe Harrison Ford would be playing Indie, he hasn't really kept in shape the way Bruce Willis has. It might be disillusioning to see him try too hard.

it just ended yesterday for this year. it is massive, and it lasts for like a week.
thats where the announcements were made regarding the new ST movie. also the made an announcement for a new Indiana Jones movie.
