What is Planned for Lebanon

Elias Aoun

And how to save the country? (Part I of II)

Probably one of the ways to comprehend the U.S. plan for Lebanon is to read the words of U.S. Colonel James ?Bo? Gritz who has been called ?THE? American Soldier, by General William Westmoreland, and is the most decorated Green Beret Commander having been awarded 62 valor citations. According to Col. Gritz,

?The era of ?violent peace? actually got underway in earnest from the day John F. Kennedy was killed . It has been waged against the electoral system in this country , and against the entire populations in Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, the Congo, Greece, Chile, Guatemala, Angola, El Salvador, Nicaragua, Panama, the Dominican Republic, Grenada, Libya, the Persian Gulf, Korea, Lebanon and other emerging countries we helped overthrow in order to establish either military dictatorships or transparently-fascist ?democracies?.

It is not a mistake, for example, to see the Bush Administration pursuing a policy in Lebanon in contrast with all the ideals that the Founding Fathers of the United States believed in. It is not also a coincidence that the ?opponents? are the ones closest in their belief to George Washington.

The idealism of America, what makes it a great country, is being defeated from within. These same ideals of the Founding Fathers ? if understood and applied properly ? could very well be the founding elements that could save Lebanon and the Middle East.

Most Americans are decent individuals who are helpful and intend no harm. Many American politicians mean well and genuinely interested in constructive solutions. The problem lies with an elitist powerful group within the intelligence community and the military industry whose objective contradict the concepts of freedom, individual rights, and other ideals upon which America was founded.

When someone in the Middle East proclaims ?Death to America?, they are actually chanting in the same choir as these elitists group who want America (the Constitution and Bill of Rights) to be eradicated in order to facilitate their fascist system. There is no explanation to many aspects of U.S. foreign policy other than that some of those who conduct it want to escalate foreign tensions with America ? and eventually undermine the country.

While some Lebanese ?loyalist politicians? think that they are being supported by the Bush Administration for ?positive ideals? in which they believe in, the support given to them emanates from their closeness (in speech and conduct) to fascism. When a Lebanese prime minister snubs what has been called ?the largest demonstration in Lebanon?s history? (almost half of the population marching in the street, not counting those who agree and could not participate in the march) to demand cabinet reform, the prime minister?s rebuff is ?admirable? by elements within the Bush Administration not for ?courage? but for exhibiting fascism at its best.

These Lebanese politicians call themselves ?the sovereign line?. How could they be the conduit to national sovereignty when they themselves are not even sovereign over their own political decision-making?

In addition, could amending the Constitution to allow a current Army Commander to be president create a precedent that might eventually lead to the ascension of a military dictatorship? The idea of establishing a military cabinet if a new president could not be elected is also ill-advised. The military should not be placed in the center of political infightings, and there is a group of politicians who will raise the level of attacks against it after a military cabinet formation. Whatever positive security contribution the Commander of the Army could provide to the country, he could do so from his current position. He should not be dragged, and he would be wise not to accept, to be president or part of a cabinet. The Constitution should not be amended, and the military and political roles should be kept separate.

John Stockwell, one of the highest-ranking CIA case officers ever to go public in his denunciation of the Agency?s covert operations, said that the Agency has conducted over 3,000 major campaigns since its official inception in 1947, and the death toll due directly to these operations has risen to over 10 million souls.? (Called to Serve: Profiles in Conspiracy from John F. Kennedy to George Bush, p. 551)

If one evaluates events taking place in Lebanon, the trend towards a ?transparently-fascist democracy? is apparent ? starting with flagrant violations of the constitution, disbanding a constitutional institution, unilateral governance, and leading to the White House Executive Order to confiscate someone?s property for opposing this fascist-style ?democracy.?
