US Vice representative to the United Nations, Alijandro Woolf, said that he takes seriously the recent statement made by Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hasan Nasrallah about a "great surprise" should Lebanon be attacked again. Speaking to the correspondent of a Lebanese newspaper, Woolf added that this "represents a threat to Lebanon and the region," and regretted that "others" are not taking Sayyed Nasrallah's words seriously.
"As you know UN resolutions 1701 and 1559 state on disarming Hezbollah as a main objective for set Lebanon on the course of total independence, free from foreign interference. Hezbollah however continues to possess weapons and brag about it, in a clear violation to UN resolutions. This reflects the danger this imposes on the stability of Lebanon and the region," Woolf said.
The US diplomat had earlier met with UN special envoy to Lebanon Gere Pederson. Before the meeting Pederson told the Lebanese daily al-Akhbar that discussions will focus on many issues and would listen to his point of view regarding upcoming presidential election.
