AtifsList is now on Facebook. If you ever wanted to go to an event but did not know who else was going, then AtifsList & Facebook might be able to help. One proposed use would be to try and gather & coordinate people to attend the various events from a central focal point. Give it a try and lets see what happens.
I am in Maryland for the short term so if any of you fine folks are coming out this way and/or if you know of any interesting events here, please do drop me a line.

p.s. I've been going back and forth whether to share personal family news with the greater community but hope that this may be helpful to others as well. My Father, Muhammad Sulaiman Qureshi, suffered a stroke three weeks ago and has been recovering ever since. While he is up, walking, eating and on a path to recovery, there will be life altering changes to diet, medication & exercise for the rest of his life. My Father was released from the hospital and is now back home. I am currently in Maryland with my parents to try and get him resettled back at home. I hope to come back to California before the end of the month.
I am sharing this for two reasons, one more selfish than the other: for those that knew, the prayers and duas of support for my father and our family have been tremendous and for that we are very much thankful for; the second reason is to encourage all those out there to get screenings for heart disease. People of South Asian descent should take advantage of the one of its kind in the whole nation: South Asian Heart Center in Mountain View, CA. This is a grant/donor funded service to collect data on South Asian Heart health.
South Asians - Men AND Women who trace their origins from India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nepal, and Sri Lanka?experience coronary artery disease at up to 4 times the rate of the general world?s population. In the next 2-3 decades, 60% of all of the heart disease cases in the world will originate from people of South Asian descent both living in South Asia and abroad. The data, South Asian specific screening methodologies and statistics that the Center is attempting to gather has the potential to help serve the South Asian community in their battle against heart disease. With a multi-million dollar grant, The South Asian Heart Center is providing free consultations and follow-ups to patients that pay for blood sample testing (some medical coverage may apply). They have been backlogged in the past due to the large number of requests and a shortage of healthcare volunteers so be patient with appointment requests. This is a one of a kind facility in North America, so take advantage of the services available to you right in your own backyard. Sign up for screenings and/or volunteering/donating via the website.
