There will be 3 Hajj workshops that I will be teaching insha Allah in the next few weeks. One will be in Southern California, and the other two will be right here in San Jose at SBIA. Each workshop is a complete workshop and only one needs to be attended.

British-born, award-winning journalist Yvonne Ridley is well known in the Muslim world for her outspoken views and defense of Islam. She endeared herself to the Muslim community in Britain when she reverted to Islam 30 months after making international headlines when she was captured by the Taleban on an undercover assignment in Afghanistan. She was a senior reporter of the Sunday Express at the time, having spent nearly 10 years in Fleet Street working for several prestige titles including The Sunday Times, The Observer, Daily Mirror and Independent on Sunday.
Sr. Yvonne set out as a regional journalist nearly 30 years in her native North East. She has also worked on projects as a broadcaster, producer and presenter on programs for BBC TV and radio, CNN, ITN and Carlton TV traveling to Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine. A founder member of Women in Journalism, she is also a promoter of women's rights, and is also a founder member of the Stop The War Coalition and the RESPECT political party.

Art is being sold with sliding scale pricing to make it affordable to all. All proceeds from art that is sold will go to benefit the Middle East Children's Alliance, a nonprofit organization working for the rights and the well being of children in the Middle East. MECA sends shipments of aid to Palestine, Iraq and Lebanon, and supports projects that make life better for the children.
Susannah Fiering (1934-2007) was a local artist whose life and art were sustained by her passions for nature, social justice, and the spiritual quest. She left behind a large body of beautiful woodcut prints as well as several acrylics, watercolors, and cast bronze sculptures. In her own words, "My work is my response and attempt to reconcile the beauty and the terror of life on this planet. The imagery combines figurative elements as they are normally seen with the outward observing eye, with others that may be perceived only by the inner eye, which is attuned to the mystery."

Aliens in America is an American situation comedy about a Wisconsin homemaker who arranges to host a foreign exchange student, believing the visitor will help her shy son become more popular. When the student turns out to be a Muslim teenager from Pakistan, her plans go awry.
Justin Tolchuk is a sensitive, lanky 16-year-old just trying to make it through the social nightmare of high school in Medora, Wisconsin, with the help of his well-meaning mom Franny, aspiring-entrepreneur dad Gary, and his popular sister Claire, who is sweetly unaware of how good-looking she is. When Franny signs up for the school's international exchange student program, she pictures an athletic, brilliant Nordic teen who will bestow instant coolness on her outsider son. However, when the Tolchuk's exchange student arrives, he turns out to be Raja Musharaff, a 16-year-old Pakistani Muslim. Despite the cultural chasm between them, Justin and Raja quickly develop an unlikely friendship that just might allow them to navigate the minefield that is contemporary high school. It's going to be a very interesting year for Raja, Justin, his family and the entire population of Medora.

Program: Showing of Michael Wolfe's Documentary on Hajj and discussion of his book One Thousand Roads to Mecca (1997) followed by Q& A Session. Ticket: $10 ($5 Students)
Michael Wolfe is a poet, author, and the President and Executive Producer of Unity Productions Foundation. He is also a frequent lecturer on Islamic issues at universities across the United States including Harvard, Georgetown, Stanford, SUNY Buffalo, and Princeton. He holds a degree in Classics from Wesleyan University. In April 1997, Wolfe hosted a televised account of the Hajj from Mecca for "Nightline" on ABC. The program was nominated for Peabody, Emmy, George Polk, and National Press Club Awards.
In 1999, Wolfe helped found an educational media foundation focused on promoting peace through the media, Unity Productions Foundation (UPF). In 2002, UPF produced its first full-length film, called Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet, a two-hour television documentary on the life and times of the Prophet Muhammad. The film, which Wolfe co-created, co-produced, and co-executive edited, received a national broadcast on PBS and subsequent international broadcasts on National Geographic International. It was awarded a Cine Special Jury Award for Best Professional Documentary in its category of People and Places.
Currently, Wolfe is co-producing two new films set for release in 2007. The first is entitled Cities of Light: The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain and is set for a national PBS broadcast on Aug. 22, 2007. Prince Among Slaves is the true story of an African prince enslaved in antebellum Mississippi struggling to regain his freedom.

Art is being sold with sliding scale pricing to make it affordable to all. All proceeds from art that is sold will go to benefit the Middle East Children's Alliance, a nonprofit organization working for the rights and the well being of children in the Middle East. MECA sends shipments of aid to Palestine, Iraq and Lebanon, and supports projects that make life better for the children.
Susannah Fiering (1934-2007) was a local artist whose life and art were sustained by her passions for nature, social justice, and the spiritual quest. She left behind a large body of beautiful woodcut prints as well as several acrylics, watercolors, and cast bronze sculptures. In her own words, "My work is my response and attempt to reconcile the beauty and the terror of life on this planet. The imagery combines figurative elements as they are normally seen with the outward observing eye, with others that may be perceived only by the inner eye, which is attuned to the mystery."

Aliens in America is an American situation comedy about a Wisconsin homemaker who arranges to host a foreign exchange student, believing the visitor will help her shy son become more popular. When the student turns out to be a Muslim teenager from Pakistan, her plans go awry.
Justin Tolchuk is a sensitive, lanky 16-year-old just trying to make it through the social nightmare of high school in Medora, Wisconsin, with the help of his well-meaning mom Franny, aspiring-entrepreneur dad Gary, and his popular sister Claire, who is sweetly unaware of how good-looking she is. When Franny signs up for the school's international exchange student program, she pictures an athletic, brilliant Nordic teen who will bestow instant coolness on her outsider son. However, when the Tolchuk's exchange student arrives, he turns out to be Raja Musharaff, a 16-year-old Pakistani Muslim. Despite the cultural chasm between them, Justin and Raja quickly develop an unlikely friendship that just might allow them to navigate the minefield that is contemporary high school. It's going to be a very interesting year for Raja, Justin, his family and the entire population of Medora.

Program: Showing of Michael Wolfe's Documentary on Hajj and discussion of his book One Thousand Roads to Mecca (1997) followed by Q& A Session. Ticket: $10 ($5 Students)
Michael Wolfe is a poet, author, and the President and Executive Producer of Unity Productions Foundation. He is also a frequent lecturer on Islamic issues at universities across the United States including Harvard, Georgetown, Stanford, SUNY Buffalo, and Princeton. He holds a degree in Classics from Wesleyan University. In April 1997, Wolfe hosted a televised account of the Hajj from Mecca for "Nightline" on ABC. The program was nominated for Peabody, Emmy, George Polk, and National Press Club Awards.
In 1999, Wolfe helped found an educational media foundation focused on promoting peace through the media, Unity Productions Foundation (UPF). In 2002, UPF produced its first full-length film, called Muhammad: Legacy of a Prophet, a two-hour television documentary on the life and times of the Prophet Muhammad. The film, which Wolfe co-created, co-produced, and co-executive edited, received a national broadcast on PBS and subsequent international broadcasts on National Geographic International. It was awarded a Cine Special Jury Award for Best Professional Documentary in its category of People and Places.
Currently, Wolfe is co-producing two new films set for release in 2007. The first is entitled Cities of Light: The Rise and Fall of Islamic Spain and is set for a national PBS broadcast on Aug. 22, 2007. Prince Among Slaves is the true story of an African prince enslaved in antebellum Mississippi struggling to regain his freedom.
