The programs objective is to inform, educate and urge the community to take a proactive stance against domestic violence and to inspire healthy family relationships. Event speakers and attendees will include community activists and prominent members including Ameena Jandali, cofounder of ING; Dr Sadullah Khan from Irvine Islamic Center; and Imam Al-Bakhri. A group of us are planning a fundraising event for Masjidul Waritheen and Clara Mohammed School masjidulwaritheen.org . The tentative date for the fundraising dinner is Sunday, June 15th, 2008 insha Allah. Meanwhile, we?re just beginning to plan the event and want the involvement of the entire community to support the effort in any way they can. Imam Faheem Shuaibe who?s the imam of the masjid has been serving the Bay Area and national Muslim American communities for decades now without asking for much in return; may God continue to bless him and increase his sustenance. We would now like to contribute to Masjid Waritheen in some small way by holding this first of its kind fundraising event in the Bay Area. Will you please help us? Aliens in America is an American situation comedy about a Wisconsin homemaker who arranges to host a foreign exchange student, believing the visitor will help her shy son become more popular. When the student turns out to be a Muslim teenager from Pakistan, her plans go awry. Justin Tolchuk is a sensitive, lanky 16-year-old just trying to make it through the social nightmare of high school in Medora, Wisconsin, with the help of his well-meaning mom Franny, aspiring-entrepreneur dad Gary, and his popular sister Claire, who is sweetly unaware of how good-looking she is. When Franny signs up for the school's international exchange student program, she pictures an athletic, brilliant Nordic teen who will bestow instant coolness on her outsider son. However, when the Tolchuk's exchange student arrives, he turns out to be Raja Musharaff, a 16-year-old Pakistani Muslim. Despite the cultural chasm between them, Justin and Raja quickly develop an unlikely friendship that just might allow them to navigate the minefield that is contemporary high school. It's going to be a very interesting year for Raja, Justin, his family and the entire population of Medora.

Building bridges of understanding, deepening spiritual connection, cooperating for peace and justice. Convened by Quaker interfaith activist Anthony Manousos, with Muslim and Jewish co-leaders. Are you concerned that religion is being used as an excuse to promote violence and hatred? Since 9/11/2001, people of different faith traditions have been coming together to build bridges of understanding, to deepen their spiritual connection, and to work together for peace and justice. This workshop will help you to become more involved in this growing movement to transform our culture and make the world more just and peaceful.
Who is this program for? Interfaith Peacemaking is for those who want to gain a deeper understanding of other religious faiths and a clearer understanding of their own. It is for those who care deeply about peace and reconciliation and want to be positive change agents in their communities and the world. Participants can be Quaker or non-Quaker. Persons of any religious discipline or no religious discipline are welcome at Quaker Center and at this program.
Who will lead this workshop? This weekend will be led by Anthony Manousos, a member of Santa Monica Friends Meeting and of the Christian Interfaith Relations Committee of Friends General Conference. Anthony has written pamphlets and articles as well as given workshops on Interfaith Peacemaking at the FGC Gathering and other Quaker venues (see his bio below). Anthony will be joined by Alan Solonomow (AFSC Middle East Program Director), Saafa Ibrahim (Council on American Islamic Relations), and others as Way opens.
What will happen at this workshop? There will be opportunities for discussion, reflection and prayer as we explore peacemaking from a Jewish, Muslim as well as Quaker perspective. You will have a chance to dialogue with those active in this movement. You will learn techniques to promote interfaith conversation, including Compassionate Listening, Sacred Listening, and Interfaith Cafes. You will also be given information about the latest print and audiovisual resources to help you in this work.

Developments in Literacy (DIL) is a non-profit organization working to eradicate illiteracy in remote and neglected areas of Pakistan by establishing primary and secondary level non-formal schools for underprivileged children, primarily girls. DIL schools educate students using a broad curriculum that covers a wide variety of subjects. Youth Outreach Developments in Literacy (YOUR DIL) is an initiative aimed at promoting awareness and encouraging support for DIL's objectives amongst young professionals. Aliens in America is an American situation comedy about a Wisconsin homemaker who arranges to host a foreign exchange student, believing the visitor will help her shy son become more popular. When the student turns out to be a Muslim teenager from Pakistan, her plans go awry. Justin Tolchuk is a sensitive, lanky 16-year-old just trying to make it through the social nightmare of high school in Medora, Wisconsin, with the help of his well-meaning mom Franny, aspiring-entrepreneur dad Gary, and his popular sister Claire, who is sweetly unaware of how good-looking she is. When Franny signs up for the school's international exchange student program, she pictures an athletic, brilliant Nordic teen who will bestow instant coolness on her outsider son. However, when the Tolchuk's exchange student arrives, he turns out to be Raja Musharaff, a 16-year-old Pakistani Muslim. Despite the cultural chasm between them, Justin and Raja quickly develop an unlikely friendship that just might allow them to navigate the minefield that is contemporary high school. It's going to be a very interesting year for Raja, Justin, his family and the entire population of Medora.

Building bridges of understanding, deepening spiritual connection, cooperating for peace and justice. Convened by Quaker interfaith activist Anthony Manousos, with Muslim and Jewish co-leaders. Are you concerned that religion is being used as an excuse to promote violence and hatred? Since 9/11/2001, people of different faith traditions have been coming together to build bridges of understanding, to deepen their spiritual connection, and to work together for peace and justice. This workshop will help you to become more involved in this growing movement to transform our culture and make the world more just and peaceful.
Who is this program for? Interfaith Peacemaking is for those who want to gain a deeper understanding of other religious faiths and a clearer understanding of their own. It is for those who care deeply about peace and reconciliation and want to be positive change agents in their communities and the world. Participants can be Quaker or non-Quaker. Persons of any religious discipline or no religious discipline are welcome at Quaker Center and at this program.
Who will lead this workshop? This weekend will be led by Anthony Manousos, a member of Santa Monica Friends Meeting and of the Christian Interfaith Relations Committee of Friends General Conference. Anthony has written pamphlets and articles as well as given workshops on Interfaith Peacemaking at the FGC Gathering and other Quaker venues (see his bio below). Anthony will be joined by Alan Solonomow (AFSC Middle East Program Director), Saafa Ibrahim (Council on American Islamic Relations), and others as Way opens.
What will happen at this workshop? There will be opportunities for discussion, reflection and prayer as we explore peacemaking from a Jewish, Muslim as well as Quaker perspective. You will have a chance to dialogue with those active in this movement. You will learn techniques to promote interfaith conversation, including Compassionate Listening, Sacred Listening, and Interfaith Cafes. You will also be given information about the latest print and audiovisual resources to help you in this work.

Developments in Literacy (DIL) is a non-profit organization working to eradicate illiteracy in remote and neglected areas of Pakistan by establishing primary and secondary level non-formal schools for underprivileged children, primarily girls. DIL schools educate students using a broad curriculum that covers a wide variety of subjects. Youth Outreach Developments in Literacy (YOUR DIL) is an initiative aimed at promoting awareness and encouraging support for DIL's objectives amongst young professionals.
