Umrao Jaan

Did Anyone see it?

I did and let me tell you I wasn't impressed at all. it was three hours long and didn't follow the original story. The beginning was good...the middle was dragging and the ending was to long. Besides the fact that aishwariya looked gorgeous I wasn't impressed with the way she read her dialogues, there was now power in her voice like rekha had...abhishek was good and he is in the movie for a pretty long time. I don't know I left the movie feeling depressed and sad! I know the movie is supposed to be tragic but I mean it was three hours of constant emotions and I just left feeling blue.

Don was a much better remake than this movie..in my opinion...but i must say...ash looked stunning in most scenes...and abishekh looked pretty good...however i wasn't really impressed by his performance either...

fayze...i agree with you about the movie...it lacked the grace and beauty of the original...i took a short nap in the middle of the movie (it was way too slow)...but yeah...you can get the book from desistore.com

The movie has alrright, but I didn't feel anything...it's wasn't like Baghban or Devdas. Just a very pretty movie.

However, now, I really wanna read the book. Apparently, the poetry in the book is amazing... Couldn't find it on amazon... any idea where to get it online... I can't really go to Pakistan to pick a book!
Thanks!

I have not seen it yet, but I doubt Aishwarya could have done as good a job as Rekha.....that was classic...

i actually liked the movie while i do believe they should have stuck with the original storyline completely. i was hoping for a dhamaka dance/song dealio but all the songs were slow ghazalish. the set and her outfits were breathtaking. i love when they put kajal in the actresses eyes like that....

I watched it today.

It lived up to all the bad reviews. Even the costumes and jewelery were not nice... very gaudy.

saima...thats exactly what the folks on zee were saying...that when rekha played umrao...she did it soo well that when we think of umrao...we think ONLY of rekha...its as if she IS amiran...and according to the critics...ash couldnt even come close to playing the role...

i thought the movie was more than just watching a movie, it was total experience. the second half was kinda slow. i liked the movie, i just feel so bad for this girl, it was just her kismat. i loved reading the subtitles during the songs, it helped me understand the movie even greater.

I got the CD for the New Umran Jaan and so far I didn't like it too much. Maybe after I see the movie and the dances I might appreciate it more.
But I'm a huge fan of the old songs from Umrao Jaan.

I agree the older Umrao hit it right on the spot with the Urdu...aishwariya was sort of off on the Urdu...when she recites the poetry and stuff there is no power or adaa in her voice. You could totally tell the directore picked her for her beauty. I mean something was totally off.

The interval came after two hours it was horrible and like they draggged it so much. An easy 30-35 minutes of the movie could have been cut out. I didn't like that he added his own scenes to it either.

I agree there was wayyyy to much crying and after point you get of sick of the over dramatics of it!
