The Retreat

Woohoo! They're doing a series called The Retreat which is an Islamic version of The Monastery - looks great - and, even more exciting - it's where me and Choti got married and loads of my friends are in it! And my mentor who brought me into the Muslim fold will be the guy who mentors all of the volunteers!

"Following hot on the heels of the success of The Monastery and The Convent, this new series made by the same team explores the faith, tradition and culture of classical Islam as it tracks the six volunteers on their soul?searching, thought?provoking and life?changing journey.

"Away from the pressures of modern life, they take part in daily prayer, reflection and study at the Spanish retreat of Alqueria de Rosales in Andalucia, which caters to many different branches of Islamic faith."

I'm so excited - not sure when it's on I think this monday?

**UPDATE** Just found the listing - it starts on Monday 26 February, 9 pm on BBC 2.

They're actually started offering the same format retreats on their website! I'd like to go...

Foxglove: Yes, there is something to be said for having no preconceptions...

OK, I finally saw this last Monday and it's very interesting... Bizarrely, the only participant who managed to recite all the prayers on time was an agnostic!

Also, the Muslim ones tended to be far more set in their ways regarding which rituals they would and would not partake in. For example, Ayesha, a traditionalist, would not join in with the Sufi dhikr.

Yes, i guess thats true Shahdat. I did finally see some trailers yesterday though. I was just comparing it to the amount of publicity The Convent and The Monastery got before they were actually screened.

I did see two trailers for it! And it was even on The Sun's website... so they didn't do too badly... There'll probably be more exopsure once the papers get to review an episode...

I agree Foxglove. There was so much publicity for The Convent and The Monastery, to the extent that it was deemed "must watch" tv. I am really annoyed and disappointed that The retreat has, in effect, got no publicity at all. :*

Wow, this is the first I've heard of it! How come there was hardly any publicity for this? Oh I forgot, it's a production that actually portrays Islam and Muslims in a POSITIVE light.

This sounds fantastic. I'll be sure to reserve a space before "prison break" in my tv schedule for this one. :)

We don't have a video recorder hooked up - that's so last century! Of course, we haven't joined the 21st Centry with a Tivo so we can't actually record anything now...! I'm hoping someone records it for me!
