My friend and I are having a transcontinental book club on the new Mohsin Hamid book. If you guys have already read it, don't give away anything yet until I crack it open this Friday. But you're welcome to read along with us if you're interested. : )

at so many levels mohsin hamid has put his finger on the pulse of the relationship between Pakistan and America. And like always, it ends up tragically. Of course this would be a political/social view in light of contemporary occurances.
It is fine points like these, these undercurrents in his stories that I most like about Hamid's book. He pushes the symbols only so far, just enough so that the tales doesn't lose the individual characters.
It is good storytelling. Has the MH trademark 'futility' element as an undercurrent running throughout the tale. Despite the 3 hours of explanation, there is enough left unsaid so that intentions and reasons maintain sufficient ambiguity giving the conclusion a tragic flavor.
Really liked the story.

The narrative style reminded me of Camus' The Fall.
