The Recent Iraqi Rape Case
This case is changing to take a highly politicized political propaganda. The case now is changing to fit the sectarian division that is being imposed in every corner on the Iraqis themselves including their values and honor.
I watched the girl when she first appeared on TV. To her the case wasn?t about being a Sunni victim at all! However, the fact is, she is sunni. Her real motive is to uncover the criminals who are allowed to rule the country under the sectarian umbrella who claim to be Muslims. I was even more disappointed in the response of the prime minister who wasn?t at all outraged or firm saying simply the accusers will be found and punished. That?s it!
Why didn?t he once and for all take a more strict response rather than let the case fall in the trap of sectarian divide. Especially that this is not the first rape case!
The first to switch this incident and cover it up is the American media. NPR and other news stations mentioned the word Sunni Girl almost in every sentence during the report! What an easy way out! Covering the truth!
Iraqis are on cross road. This rape incident along others should hopefully be alarming enough to clean up the mess of filthy ?Muslims? in power. Arab girls honor is not a material for the media to be used in this dirty political propaganda.
Shame on these ?men?!

Unfortunately, the failures to protect her and bring the men who did this to justice goes far beyond the "Muslim men" in power. The track record of Saddam's regime is beyond the pail, not to mention the kind of torture and brutal killings going on by all parties these days.
I wish that an incident this extreme would provide the wake-up call to factional leaders to start changing the current course of Iraq. But I believe that it will just be used as another reason to continue fighting, and even escalating the brutality on both sides. I fear that we'll start seeing a cycle of rape and counter-rape as both sides slide into the typical tit-for-tat strategy.
What's happening in Iraq is more tragic than can be put in mere words. And the worst of it is that there's no light at the end of the tunnel.
