Muhammad means "praiseworthy" The full name of the Prophet Muhammad is Abu al-Qasim Muhammad Ibn Abd Allah Ibn Abd al-Muttalib Ibn Hashim. He is the Last Messenger of God, described in The Qur'an - Chapter 33, "The Confederates" Verse 40 - as "The Seal Of The Prophets"
The Prophet Muhammad began to recieve the Final Revelations from God when he was 40 years old in the city of his birth, Mecca. At the time, he was married to a noble aristocratic lady of the name Khadijah, and was the father of four daughters. He was widely acknowledged as being an exceedingly good man, and the title "Al-Amin" - The Trustworthy - was bestowed upon him in recognition of this most worthy of traits.
Islam is an Arabic word and means, quite simply, "submission" Thus, a Muslim is "one who submits" to the Will of the Creator.
The Message of Islam continues, confirms and concludes the Earlier Revelations contained in The Torah, Psalms Of David and Gospels. In that sense, then, Islam is by no means a new religion neither is the Prophet Muhammad its "founder".
The concept of the Unity of God lies at the heart of the Revelations granted to the Prophet Muhammad. Thus, "There is no god/deity except The God" is the fundamental premise of Islam.
Chapter 112, The Declaration of God's Perfection, Verses 1-4;
Say: "HE Is The One God:
God The Eternal, The Uncaused Cause of All That Exists.
HE Begets not, and neither is HE Begotten;
and there is nothing that could be compared with HIM."
The Bible clearly predicts the advent of the Prophet Muhammad:
Deuteronomy xviii,15 -
In the words of Moses;
"The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a prophet from the midst of thee,of thy brethren,like unto me;unto him shall ye hearken."
Deuteronomy xviii,18 -
In the words of God;
"I will raise them up a prophet from among thy brethren,like unto thee,and will put MY words in his mouth."
Genesis xxi,13
"..of the son of the bondwoman (ie., Ishmael) will I make a great nation because he is thy seed."
Genesis xxi,18
"Arise, lift up the lad, and hold him in thine hand; for I will make him a great nation."
The Prophet Abraham was the father of both Ishmael (his eldest son born of Hagar) and Isaac (his second son born of Sarah). The long line of Hebrew Prophets are descended from Isaac and Jacob (ie., Israel, his son), and the Prophet Muhammad is descended from Ishmael.
St.John, 16,7
"Nevertheless, I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I not go away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.."
St.John, 16,13
"..How be it when he, the Spirit of Truth, is come, he will guide you unto all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will show you things to come.."
The Qur'an Reveals the underlying unity of the Abrahamic Faiths and Communities;
Chapter 2 The Cow, Verse,62;
"...those who have attained to faith (in this divine writ),as well as those who follow the Jewish faith,and the Christians,and the Sabians - all who believe in God and the Last Day and do righteous deeds - shall have their reward with their Sustainer..."
The Prophet Muhammad and the great Messengers who preceded him, including Noah, Abraham, Moses and Jesus, conveyed and preached essentially the same Truth - there is only One God, Who will Judge Humankind on Judgement day.
