I thought the movie totally sucked!! The only people who actually did a good job is Tabu and her husband in the movie. It was too long plus 2 decades were put in 2.5 hrs. I was lost through out the movie trying to figure out when did his dad pass away, or when did he find a new girlfriend, or when did he get married..also the actor Kal Penn is not a good actor. He is better of doing harold and kumar kind of movies. He lacked the passion for the role plus his character could never connect with Gogal and his name...
I would rate it a C. The story line was good but not directed properly or developed properly..

I thought Kal's acting was believable, he seemed like the average joe Indian guy that grew up here. He's better at being sarcastic & funny & the emotional scenes had a little bit of overacting but overall I liked him for the role.

I thought KAL was Horrible in the film I would have gotten some else to play the charcter. He really messes up in the emotional scenes.

I would have gone with a Sunil Malhotra, a Sunkrish Bala, Samrat Chakabarty or even some some body new.

IRFAN is amazing he has small role but it is by far the best actor in the film, period.

Yes, I think the best acting was Tabu's and I think I could relate to it as well, being the 1st generation born to immigrant parents...

Some aspects of the movie were very exaggerated!

I loved the movie and could relate to it as an immigrant to this country dealing with my numerous daughters who are all american.

There is a commonality of basic values that transcend nationalities, races and religions.

This is one of the reason why I love Bollywood movies so much, I might be a little softy when it comes to values of family, selflessness, love, loyalty, etc.. that are often exemplified in some of the great films

Bare bottom does not move me, I am French, use to it, it is free on any French beach and I lived in the French Caribbean, it is even worse there, people go "nature".

But the parents, specially the mother, that really moved me. The children, I could only smile and relate to my own. You have to love them does not matter what.

first half was good, but the second half was all over the place..very sloppy and choppy direction..

Irfan Khan blew me away with his performance..Tabu was really good too..

That bengali chick was AWESOME ;)

I thought the movie was pretty good. The best acting was the mom! Kal Penn was pretty believable. I liked the irony with the characters of the "American girl" & the "Bengali girl"!

I have been reading the book for a few weeks now, love it. Unfortunatley the movie is not playing anywhere in the San Jose Bay Area yet :(

Kal Penn, Irrfan Khan, Sahira Nair and Tabu were great in this movie. Kal Penn was born in my town, Montclair, NJ. Tabu is awesome. The movie is very well done and touch a nerve for all those who have immigrated and live in two worlds. The dichotomy between tradition and modernity raises all the question of family, the nature of love and surrendering, selfessness versus selfishness, the loneliness of a certain type of freedom.

A really liked the film.
