the inheritance of loss

The inheritance of loss by Kiran Desai.

What did you think?

While it didn't sound particularly interesting on the sleeve, I really enjoyed the book. Much more than I thought I would.

Basically, the book is set against a backdrop of tribal insurgency. A young girl goes to live with her grandfather and their cook. The cook's son has gone to the US, taking all his fathers dreams and aspirations for life with him. The book also touches on the impact of colonialism on India and Indians - in a way that I've not come across. It made me realise how much of the way we think and behave today has its roots in imperialism. Even though we are unaware.
