The Diving Bell and the Butterfly

I recently saw this really great true story movie. Don't you love those? It's about this guy who is an editor for French elle living a very hedonistic life who has an accident of sorts and ends up almost completely paralyzed; the only thing that he can move are his eyelids and eyes. From this he decides to write a book about his life and the state that he is in, essentially a state between life and death. Mind you this is a true story and no one has really reported back from this kind of a place before - not quite fully living but not dead either.

Here's a trailer: www.youtube.com

in fact, the trailer doesn't do much justice. The cinemantograpy is really unique because it mostly takes the perspective of the patient so much so that you as the audience almost become the patient.

Oh and did I mention that it won best director, best screen play and foreign language film at the Golden Globes. The movie is in French.

rented this movie recently...

human courage is amazing...

...one has to wonder at his ability to write a book with only his one eyelid blinking as the main communication tool...

...such a sad and beautiful movie...Locked-In syndrome is rare though..

...this has inspired me to read his book in the near future...
