Sheikh Kassem accuses Feb14 of arming themselves


Hezbollah deputy secretary-general, Sheikh Naem Kassem, said that violating the constitution through the half-plus-one formula, sought by the February 14 bloc to elect a president will invalidate "the only arbitrator between us and them". The opposition" won't keep silent towards this possibility and will consider the presidential position empty and then would be obliged to close the gap" he insisted.

Sheikh Kassem considered in an interview with "The Middle East" newspaper that if the February 14 camp elects the president in a "political non-constitutional method", it would open the way for the opposition to make a political choice. Then, the responsibility would fall upon the faction that started the violation.
Sheikh Kassem justified the opposition's refusal of the February 14 bloc candidate Naseeb Lahoud by saying that he has acted with one party against the other which takes away the feature of arbitrator from him. His eminence indicated that this doesn't apply to MP General Micheal Aoun saying he is "the only opposition candidate till now".

On the possibility of a civil war breaking out on the ground of presidential election, Sheikh Kassem warned that emptying the country from the common rules "puts it before the law of the jungle in which we don't know where we would reach". Hezbollah's deputy secretary general refused to determine what Hezbollah arms destination would be then. He said that the general rule is that the inside isn't a target for Hezbollah's arms". However, Kassem stressed "nobody can anticipate what would happen to this country because of the government's performance".

He vehemently refuted allegations that Hezbollah is training Lebanese groups and accused February 14 groups, without exception, of arming themselves. Sheikh Kassem assured that the army intelligence and other security bodies are completely aware of this. He also confirmed that the party is continuing training and equipping, unveiling the immense increase in the number of Hezbollah fighters especially after July war 2006.
