Sayyed Nasrallah: Hezbollah Backs Accord

Hezbollah Secretary General Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah has welcomed dialogue between the Lebanese national opposition and the ruling bloc. Sayyed Nasrallah was speaking through a large screen during the opening of an agricultural fair in Beirut's southern suburb of Rweis organized by Jihad al-Bina'a on Thursday night. His eminence expressed hope that negotiations between rival Lebanese leaders General Michel Aoun and MP Saad Hariri in Paris over the election of a new president would lead to a breakthrough in the ongoing stalemate. Sayyed Nasrallah said that he was "happy with any meeting between opposition officials and the government". Amid lack of agreement on a consensus candidate, a session of Lebanon's parliament to elect a new president has been twice postponed and is now scheduled to take place on November 12.
Sayyed Nasrallah also lashed out at the ruling bloc for failing to prevent the Israeli army warplanes' violation of the country's sovereignty.
"It is a shame and suspicious as well that the ruling bloc that claims that it promotes Lebanese independence, remains silent in the face of these aerial violations," his eminence said.

"The resistance today is stronger than before and Israel is weaker,'' his eminence said.
"We don't want war with anyone, but at the same time, we will not allow anyone to attack our villages, people and country,'' he added.
Sayyed Nasrallah warned that no one will be allowed "to stain Lebanon's lands, which will not be a land for Israeli occupation or American military bases''.
He was referring to a report by Lebanese daily As-Safir newspaper last month that said Washington was proposing a treaty with Lebanon that would make it a strategic partner and lead to the creation of US bases in the country.
