Racism at Diva Lounge

"If you look at me like that one more time, I'm going to smash your head into that mirror!"

I looked to my right and surprisingly found a middle-aged Caucasian woman staring straight at me. She was angry and muttering profanities. I wondered what I had done to provoke this woman. However, I couldn't come up with a concrete answer. All my friends and I had been discussing was what kind of drinks we were planning to order. Would it be the Peach Passion, or the Apple Martini?

I decided to ignore her violent threats seeing as she was drunk. I knew I had done nothing wrong and therefore believed her attempt at intimidating me was unwarranted. It was Saturday night after all, and I had arrived at Diva Lounge in Davis Square fifteen minutes ago to join my friends for a Saturday night study break.

Hmm well it did occur to me that the people might have been overly sensitive or that perhaps there was some other infraction that happend (like someone took someone's table etc) but either way it is interesting. In all honesty I have not experienced anything like thike this personaly but I know it happens. Either way it would have been nice to be there though cause a bar brawl is always fun!

Very intersting interchange. I could not help but thinking though how much the restaurant is legaly required to do I guess since the woman was the manager's sister it might be a bit more but alas the rules against racism do not protect one against private acts of ignorant individuals. The irony ok 'South Asians' being refered to by the N word is also not lost, considering so many south asians tend to use these same words to describe African Americans. Alas I did not expect it of Sommerville but these types of things, when they happen really open ones eyes to the deep seated racial tensions that still exist behind the PC veil of American society.

Just checked the link out...pretty unbelievable. i expect stuff like this to happen...but not in "progressive" "hippie" somerville.
and, isn't diva lounge run by indians (i'd presume) in which case, why didn't the the manager do anything?

in any case, i want to call them and bit*h them out myself...i don't even think boycotting is enough.
