According to wikipedia.....Qutub Shah was the first known Urdu poet..I found it interesting as I really couldn't find much of his poetry ....I finally found one which I couldn't understand at all....I figured this would be the perfect place to see of anyone else understands it.

piyaa baaj piyaalaa piyaa jaaye naa

piyaa baaj piyaalaa piyaa jaaye naa
piyaa baaj yak til jiyaa jaaye naa

nahii.n ishq jise vo ba.Daa kuu.D hai
kadii us se mil besiyaa jaaye naa

kahe the piyaa bin sabuurii karuu.N
kahaa jaaye ammaa kiyaa jaaye naa

'Qutub' shaah na de mujh diivaane ko pand
diivaane ko kuchh pand diyaa jaaye naa

Ps Qutub Shah was of the turkmen so maybe this is more Turkish?

Alas dead end...the Turk man I know, doesn't have any info...except that the words could be Parsi?

Thats very true Carrera. The problem is the Roman Urdu and then there are so many ways the word can sound. My guess is that "pand" might mean "ilzaam" or "dosh". This is a guess only

So this is old Urdu?

sounds like the old urdu that Chaap Tilak is writen in

pyaas vo dil kii bujhaane kabhii aayaa bhii nahii.n
kaisaa baadal hai jisakaa ko_ii saayaa bhii nahii.n
