Pleasanton and Antioch?
Salaamz guys . ok, u guys get to hear about all my job opportunities and location searching ... :P
so now the walnut creek position i was asking about turns out to be a position with half the time in pleasanton and less time also in antioch. so i'd have to live in btwn, perhaps in walnut creek or more south.
I'd like to know about the area. on the map these locations seem lightly populated. my main interest would be in getting to know and hang out with the muslim crowd there. you guys relayed some stuff before. i know hayward has zaytuna. i also know fremont has a desi populastion. can you tell me anything about the area, ie. antioch , pleasanton, etc. socially? i know they are a 45 min to san fran which i'm assuming is also where most single pple hang out and offers more to do, ie theater, plays, restaurants, meetings of the minds/ social groups etc.
i thought being near san fran would be great , to meet other muslims but i'm not sure it will be realistic to travel there all the time based from living somewhat east of it and in the middle of suburbia .
so whaddya say about:
1. the antioch and pleasanton areas, and living in between. sounds like families/ residential/ suburubia so do pple hang and do stuff there?
2. the commute btwn for ex. walnut creek to antioch and to pleasanton on the 680 in peak times. i know in La everyone commutes more than a half hour, but i don't want to be doing more than a half hour.
3. the closeness to other muslim social hububs, like san francisco area; seems like about an hour away. santa clara is more than an hour away..

I live in Dublin (2 min from Pleasanton). I just moved here 3 months ago and I DON'T like it at all! I'm not much of a suburbia person, at all. I highly advise against moving here, it's very boring. In fact, I'm moving. =) If you want to chat more, please feel free to email me.

i may be coming there this sunday to check out the area iA. i guess i'll look at walnut creek downtown and san ramon's masjid? any advice about specifics to check on sunday?
quepedo: definately those places sound like good places to settle down and have a family. i think the single factor would make one want to look for a community with more activities...i heard walnut creek has a great downtown area. san ramon sounds good from what u are saying , and esp since i know san ramon masjid apparently is active - does the BART go to SF from there too? does the BART go to hayward or san jose also?
wow - i didn't know traffic would be such a problem outside of LA ! i hear the 680 and the 4 which i'd be taking are congested at peak times.
Since you'll be spending more time in Pleasanton, consider Danville, San Ramon, Dublin or Pleasanton. They all have established Muslim communities, and are safe and clean. In case you're planning ahead, San Ramon and Dublin have some of the best schools in California. The only drawback is being single since most folks are married with kids, but since you're single, female and a doc, you'll be adopted by many.
You can also avoid highway time if you're close to one office as opposed to being central. All four cities are accessible by local roads.
WRT the 'City'(..SF) , it's easily accessible by Bart from Dublin. It takes about 45 minutes, while it takes at least 45 minutes by car but often much longer due to highway traffic and bridge wait times.
I'm based out of Livermore which is quite further to the East, but I'm in the city at least once a week. There's a great community of single, level headed Muslims in SF who enjoy movies, museums, performances, restaurants and are actively involved with the Muslim community.

as a single person, i want to be around busy social acativity and meet new pple to hang out etc. so i wouldn't probably want to live IN pleasanton or antioch, but rather in between. that leaves walnut creek.
I KNOW san fran is awesome from everyone's universal input. i could probably visit on some weekends. but i'm just wondering what life would be like where i'm actually living in walnut creek, and if the commute would be reasonable to antioch and pleasanton in peak times. btw IS THERE A DECENT YOUNG MUSLIM community in walnut creek??
Antioch - be sure to have plenty of bear, cheetos and chitlins in your trailer home/office to pacify the locals.
other than that - these are all great places to live.
