Picasso's work is just one of many attractions in Barcelona, the capital of Catalonia on the Mediterranean coast - a city filled with gothic architecture, historic monuments, parks and gardens, squares and boulevards, exciting nightlife and shopping opportunities.
It's the 'in' city to visit, standing in popularity alongside New York, London, Paris, Roma and Sydney, with its mixture of modern and medieval, gothic and grand, sporty and serene.
You cannot possibly do all the sights of Barcelona in a weekend. But we took a hop-on hop-off open-top bus from the central Placa de Catalunya, at the top of the famous La Rambla, to get a snapshot of the city.
