Personal hygiene, hair removal and hair colouring
The messengers of Allah practised and preached these acts to their followers. They are acts of propriety to which human beings must conform in their lives.
The Messenger of Allah, said: There are 10 acts which are part of one's nature:
1.trimming the mustache,
2.growing the beard,
3.brushing the teeth with miswak (tooth stick)
or tooth brush
4.sniffing water into the nostrils (to clean them),
5.clipping the nails,
6.washing between the fingers (and toes),
7.removing the armpit hair,
8.shaving the pubic hair,
9. washing the private parts (after easing oneself),
10. rinsing the mouth.
(Related by Muslim).
Another Hadith of the Messenger of Allah (saw) says:
There are Ahadith indicating other acts which the Prophet (pbuh) encouraged Muslims to practise.
These include:
a) Grooming one's hair by oiling it and combing it.
Jabir Ibn Abdullah, radhiallahu anhu, narrated: The Messenger of Allah paid a visit to us in our house and he saw a man whose hair was untidy, whereupon he asked, Could this man not find something to groom his hair with? (Related by Abu Dawud).
b) Changing grey hair by using henna and katm. The Prophet (saw), said: The best thing that one can use to change the colour of grey hair is henna and katm (a reddish dye). (Related by Muslim).
c) Using musk and perfume which have sweet pleasant fragrances. The Prophet (saw), said: Amongst the things of this world, I love women and perfume. And prayer has been made the solace of my eyes.
