Boise State actually played some good teams this season: Oregon State (beat USC) and Hawaii were among the top 25 teams on their schedule. They also beat Idaho in their rivalry game (it might not seem like a big deal, but just ask USC what a rivalry game can do to a team's season!).
In my opinion, ?rankings? are not as good an indicator as ?standings? are (i.e. your win-loss record). Boise State beat every team on their schedule ? it's not their fault that USC or Ohio State (or any other football giant) was not on their schedule.
True, Boise State might lose 7 or 8 out of 10 when playing against Florida or USC, etc, but the beauty of the game lies in the fact that teams like Boise State are capable of beating any team on that one particular day that matters the most, and that's just what the Broncos did against the Sooners.
Btw, Boise State was undefeated in 2004 also, but another undefeated non-BCS team (Utah, led by Alex Smith) was invited to Glendale.
The only regret I have is that I could not make it to any of their home games this season. I was gonna watch the game against USU at the Bronco stadium, but ended up moving to Texas the same day -:(
Anyways, if I were to ?rank? the top 5 college teams from what I've seen this season based on each team's potential to win the national championship (IF we had playoffs like in the pros)...
1-- Florida
2a-- LSU
2b-- USC
4-- Ohio State
5-- Boise State
Lastly, sleeper pick in this year's draft (if an NFL team takes a chance on him): Jared Zabransky, QB Boise State ? this guy will likely be available in the late rounds, so a team like Chicago should give it a shot. He is a smart and dependable QB, and can flourish in the right system (unlike Brady Quinn who's most likely gonna have an Alex Smith-like rookie season)...
Yeah I remember George Mason, eventually we rolled over them and it was fun too.
Well its great cause we also hold NC in basket ball and the way ESPN analysts had love fest for Ohio St was crazy.
It makes me wonder these analysts are so wrong and yet get paid so much.
As for Boise state, they had a great year and I dont want to be arrogant but they dont stand a chance if they come on field with us or LSU or Trojans, its just too much a talent gap.
Yuck time to get ready to leave !! :(
Nisa: yup. Sucks for you! I wen tto WVU where we had a competitive football and basketball team. Do you guys even have a stadium??? );
I wanted the Gators to win for one reason, Boise State! They were wronged - a 13-0 team without a chance to play for the national championship. I am so sick of college bowl games - what difference does any bowl game win - when the final game decides the championship? Ridiculous! I am hoping for a playoff system but I am not holding my breath.
