Z: I didn't know that was a requirement for nomination! It seems that every year movies that no one has heard of get nominated, like the Penelope Cruz movie.

Hook: It was released otherwise it would not be nominated!! I haven't seen it or Last King, but probably would wait for the DVD.

Anyone seen 'Babel'? It's up for awards, but I never even heard that it was released.

I also want to see 'The Last King of Ireland' - it looks pretty good and it's based on historical events.

Z: I saw that one! It was pretty wild (and unrealistic, at times), but the nonfictional movie is probably even more scary as it outlines what scientists really think will happen. Having almost drowned 5 or 6 times, melting polar caps and rising water levels is not a good sign for me... *:

Ben Stiller 's "Night at the Museum" took in $24 million to stay on top at the box office for a third-straight weekend, fending off a soft crop of newcomers during the post-holiday lull.

"Night at the Museum," from 20th Century Fox, raised its three-week domestic total to $164.1 million, according to studio estimates Sunday. Will Smith 's "The Pursuit of Happyness," from Sony, finished second again with $13 million to raise its total to $124.2 million.

Expanding from its Christmas debut in a handful of theaters, Universal's thriller "Children of Men" led the new wide releases, coming in at No. 3 with $10.3 million. The film stars Clive Owen and Julianne Moore in a tale of a near future in which humanity faces extinction because of infertility.

Debuting in fourth with $9.7 million was Paramount's drama "Freedom Writers," starring Hilary Swank as an idealistic teacher who uses writing journals and exercises in tolerance to inspire her class of racially divided teens.

Lionsgate's animated comedy "Happily N'Ever After," a fairy-tale farce featuring the voices of Sarah Michelle Gellar , Freddie Prinze Jr. and Sigourney Weaver , opened at No. 6 with $6.8 million.

New Line's "Code Name: The Cleaner," a comedy with Cedric the Entertainer as a janitor who thinks he's a spy, premiered out of the top 10, coming in at No. 11 with $4.6 million.

Films competing for Academy Awards attention did well as they expanded to more theaters, including Fox Searchlight's "Notes on a Scandal," which took in $1.1 million in just 93 theaters. The film stars Judi Dench as a teacher preying on a colleague (Cate Blanchett ) having an affair with a student.

I finally saw 'Lawrence of Arabia'...I know I'm way behind. It was at my uncle's house...so had to see it.

Hookie...when you come here...I'll have take ya to this theater in Manhattan...save the next movie for me...I'm too behind already. :) What else is out there...

'Apocolypto' is the best movie I've seen in a while. The Will Smith movie just wasn't as powerful as I thought it would be - it seemed light on struggle and his triumph was kind of brushed over.

BTW, Borat has been been nominated for few Gloden Globe Awards. Haven't seen the movie myself yet, but now may venture a trip to the theater.

thanks for listing your favourite movies. I have already ordered some and watched "Kolya" yesterday.

I really enjoyed it. I laughed a few times and cried quite a few times. Very touching story. But the ending is a bit odd, I think it could have been done better.

Could it be that the European version is a little more "revealing" than the American version? We are generally very prudish on this side of the pond, so maybe our censors took out some of the nudity.
