Miriam Makeba, South Africa (1932-2008)
Miriam Makeba, Singer dies at 76, on 9 Nov08 in Caserta, after being taken ill in Italy. She had just taken part in a concert near the southern town of Caserta.

The Johannesburg club Singer became a voice for the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa. Despite saying many times her songs were not political, she paid a high price for her activism. The South African government revoked her passport, effectively sending her into exile for 31 years.
She did not return to her home city of Johannesburg until after Nelson Mandela was released from prison in 1990.
Makeba won a Grammy award in 1966 for best folk recording with Harry Belafonte for the album An Evening with Belafonte and Makeba.
Makeba - whose biggest hits have included Pata Pata and Malaika in the 60s - yet had plan in 2008 to continue recording new music.
