Meetup: BABOUCHE, FRIDAY June 22nd 8PM

****Change of Date: New Date is FRIDAY JUNE22nd, 2007 8PM****

The date for this meetup has been changed to FRIDAY, JUNE 22, 2007 8PM. This new date is just one day after the previous one. Please make a note of this.

The change in date is because the venue will be doing a last-minute renovation change and will be closing off our scheduled dining area. The area will reopen the next day, FRIDAY June 22nd, which is our new dinner date. In addition to the bellydancer, we will have a DJ spinning music. Also on a positive note, the venue will be able to accommodate more of us, so I will be opening up this event to include more.

I profusely apologize for the inconvenience this change of date may have caused. I hope this will not be a problem for those of you who have already RSVP'ed. Please contact me if this change of date becomes a conflict for you.

I appreciate your understanding and look forward to meeting you all on JUNE 22nd!

Salam!

I am arranging a dinner gathering for 'NYC Young Pakistani Professionals' (and friends of) through a site called meetup.com. I'm extending the invite to anyone in this village who is interested. Details regarding the group can be found here: urdu.meetup.com

The last meetup had a capacity-crowd - a lively group of 12. More is expected for this dinner.

The venue is a trendy Moroccan restaurant with a fantabulous staff in the heart of SOHO. Dinner is HALAL, arranged especially for that night. Individual checks will be served, so order as you please! Bellydancing entertainment begins at 9PM, so hang on to your plush cushions!

Excerpt from Hipguide.com:

A bi-level Moroccan restaurant, with its entrance on Mercer Street, we're glad that L'Occitane decided to surrender the art of serving food to Babouche. Well-decorated and owned by the aggressively personable Omar Balouma, this spot kicked off by hosting holiday parties for everyone from Ralph Lauren to Versace. A mix of fashion types and off-the-street tourists fill the bilevel lounge which serves up creative drinks in the downstairs atrium (that acts as a great alternative to the sanitised bars in Soho) and serves up accurately rendered and tasty Moroccan dishes in the upstairs restaurant. Mezze salads are fresh, varied and flavourful and the classic hummus comes topped with a diced tomato salad and is large enough to be shared. Traditional couscous is served tagine style with the chickpea sauce on the side and the chicken is tender and cooked just perfectly. While pricier than some of the other Moroccan places in Manhattan, the menu here is also larger, the portions are ample and the service is solicitous making it the kind of place one can impress a date, a boss or take the family after tourist-y shopping.

Excerpt from Citysearch.com:

Soho becomes a chic casbah for shoppers and tourists at this transporting eatery tucked behind L'Occitane. Intricately woven carpets cover the floors and mosaic tiles decorate the walls, while wooden Moorish archways section off the lounge and dining areas of the bi-level space. The menu sticks to familiar Moroccan fare: hummus topped with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers and olives, kefta tagine (a clay pot of beef meatballs, peas and artichokes) and, for dessert, a goat cheese cake.

Thank you all who have attended the dinner party at Babouche Friday night!

Everyone's enthusiasm made the night all the more delightful and fun! We had a turnout of nearly 45 - almost quadruple of what was initially intended! I hope you had an enjoyable time as much as I did, and I look forward to seeing you again in upcoming meetups!
