Ours is the condition of the loss of awareness.
In essence, wakefulness and awareness of the heart to the signs of Allah (SWT) requires that the lower ego (nafs ammara) has surrendered, that it no longer dominates one's personhood through the worldly desire to possess material objects or even status or even the perceived superiority that comes with being able to "understand" or "explain" phenomena in the world.
