I had one of the most amazing days in london today--one of the best, vibrate, eclectic cities in the world :)

london is great! its my home.. always something to do.. ok the weather sucks but as a city, its fantastic!

where are you staying in london salimac and for how long? let me know and i'll see if i can give you any pointers...

London sucks. I hate that place. I think Paris is fun. I've never been to Amsterdam, but I'm sure you'll find something to do there ;)

I lived in Paris 3 years ago, and it's is not much happening near the Eiffel Towe on new year .. I wonder where all the people are.. Maybe I should try the Champs Elysees this time inshaaAllah.

I loved the British Museum. I'm in Calcutta presently... went to the museum here and unfortunately it was so badly maintained but you could just tell how awesome it must have been at the time of the British.

yeah--mum doesn't make tikka's and kababs and some gujarati specialties i've had in london...yeah bricklane is good too...my cousin used to have resturant there...thanks for the tips.

really? i don't really eat much desi food out as i prefer mums cooking. there's a place called Brick Lane (nearest tube is Aldgate East) which has many desi restaurants. Southall is a desi area which I guess has many food places.

I went to London last Christmas and did a whole bunch of things. I'm not sure how much time you are planning on spending there but here are a few suggestions:

Shopping:

- Oxford St for shopping (It's really packed this time of year but the department store windows are done beautifully... definitely worth, esp Selfriges. The sales are pretty good too.

- Brent Cross shopping centre is good also (it's NW London, right off the Hendon way).

- Camden Market is great!! You will get any thing from antiques to fake designer hand bags, to souvenirs, etc. It's right off the subway line.

If you are into designer wear Bond Street is the place to go. If you love perfumes you MUST go to Jo Malone's shop on Bond St. Of course there is Harvey Nichols and Harrods as well.

Food:

Restaurants are expensive.. even McDonald's! There are plenty of sandwich shops where they sell ready made packaged sandwiches... they are pretty good.

For upscale place it has got to be the Ivy... a complete celebrity hang out. Very, very hard to get reservations though.

Touring/Sight seeing:

In London there is plenty. Depends on what you like. There's the regular Tower of London, Madam Tussauds, London eye.

I'm a museum and art buff and there are sooo many places to indulge! The British Museum is amazing.. esp the library... simply beautiful! Victoria and Albert gallery and Tate and National Gallery are great also.

If you are into palaces... I believe Buckingham is only open in summer season. Kensington palace is very nice.. that's where Diana lived and they usually have some of her dresses on exhibit. When I went they had a photo exhibit by Mario Testino.. very nice!

I also took two out of town tours.. there are plenty of places to choose from like Bath, Stone Henge, Windsor Castle, Leeds Castle, Hampton Court Palace, Canterbury, Oxford, Cottswalds, etc.

I went to Hampton Court Palace, Stone Henge, Windsor Castle, and Bath. Bath was simply AMAZING!!!! If you are into architecture you will love it.. such a beautiful town and the Roman bath ruins are simply awesome!
