All ranges are different. They will not rent you a gun if you have no experience, which is why you would need to accompany me (since I am a range member). The hang out time before hand is just to get you comfortable with the language and ettiquite of handling a firearm, since it is a device that can easily kill you or someone else, we shooters tend to be real sticklers with it comes to behavior.. some of which is not real obvious. Next time you are in the area contact me, I'll take you out to the range.
