Lebanon Opposition Slams Ruling Bloc over Annapolis

Lebanon's opposition has slammed the unconstitutional government of Fouad Saniora for sending a delegation to a US-sponsored conference, calling it an "irresponsible" decision. Ismail Sokkariyeh, a member of Loyalty to the resistance parliamentary bloc, told Al-Alam Channel that the participation of the unconstitutional government in Annapolis conference was not based on national consensus. Therefore, the delegation does not represent the Lebanese nation, he said. MP Sokkariyeh said that the delegation dispatched to the conference represents only a certain party.

He warned of "very dangerous aspects" of the Annapolis conference, saying that Lebanon's attendance in the conference should have been made through a consensus decision. "Now that the consensus has not been reached, the ruling party could not decide on behalf of the Lebanese people in the conference," he said.
He also rejected the conference as a plot against the Palestinian people, adding that the right of return for the Palestinian refugees would not be discussed at the conference.

The Lebanese official added that the US is seeking to sell the views of Saniora's delegation at Annapolis meeting as Lebanon's national stance.
