Last Himalayan Fair @ Berkeley in May '08

Dear Friends,

I will be attending the Himalayan Fair this weekend in Berkeley, and wanted to spread the word. Master Wang (my teacher, co-founder of SenSpa.com and founder of the Zen & Tea Temple in San Francisco - MedicineBuddha.us), will be present in person, giving readings and holding authentic, traditional Chinese tea ceremonies. He can be seen on the front-page picture of the HimalayanFair.net site with his son, A'Noah - www.himalayanfair.net

Another reason for sending this message is, to my delightful surprise, discovering that Riffat Sultana will be performing sans familia, www.himalayanfair.net
- see SHABAZ at 4:30 PM on Saturday). The last time I saw her was at a GymKhana Club event in Fremont. Totally called out to the root of my being, and enabled me to sway in kind abandon to honest SUFI Rock. This was rather strange as it was me lettin' loose alone, in a largely Indian/Pakistani setting. No one else got up, but I enjoyed their enjoyment.. ;-)

This was in stark contrast to the performance of Junoon's Salman Ahmad, at Stanford last month.. There I had a number of new-age western compatriots who loosened up the minority DESI (Indian/Pakistani ex-patriot) crowd. Letting go there was rather easy.. Besides, Salman does such a great job of letting the fetters loose..

The weekend ends with Salman's old band-mate, Ali Asmat's personal performance at the Chabot Art Center in Hayward. There's nothing I can say about this man that experiencing his presence cannot better convey. I knew him as a young performer in an older band, named Jupiters, when they came twice to the Pakistan Air Force Academy to perform, and I got to know him personally - being in the drama club.. Info on this event is at this cnydesi.com

I sincerely hope to see (at least some of) you there..

Abbas

This coming weekend - is it! Here is a message from the curator of DASwear.com :

Hope you are doing beautifully on this warm evening. I would like to invite you to visit me at the Himalayan Fair this upcoming weekend. It is a wonderful event at Live Oak Park in Berkeley, The Medicine Buddha has been so kind as to give me a little prime space in which to show the new fashion forward, ekological DAS. Please come enjoy the sweetness of the Himalayan Fair and drink some tea with us. It might be the last time this event takes place in that Park...so experience it while it's still around.

See you at the Fair!

Love and Tea,

Us

Try to plan on it.
