Jumblatt lied to Syrians for 25 years


Lebanon's head of progressive socialist Party, Walid Jumblatt, admits that he has deceived the Syrians for almost twenty five years. "I am not a real ally to Syrians and I am lying to them," said Jumblatt in an interview with Press TV. The Lebanon's Druze leader claimed that his father was killed by the Syrians. 'I decided to fix a pact with the devil and to shake hand the one who killed my father,' said Jumblatt, denouncing the fact that he had not the courage to declare the claim 25 years ago. Jumblatt implicitly admitted that he is ready to cooperate with Americans rather than his fellow citizens, accusing Hezbollah of facilitating or ignoring Syrian killings. "I will not give the veto power for the sake of Hezbollah and their allies and the Syrian regime," he said. "They can take it by force over our dead bodies" but "I am not going to give up the veto power for the sake of Hezbollah," he added.

The head of the Free Patriotic Movement on Monday said Sfeir "does not represent the public opinion, but rather the Church." The Patriarch, Aoun said, "is free to express his opinion regarding the political situation ? but he does not decide our constitutional powers on behalf of us." He also asked Sfeir to "clarify what is being said" about Bkirki's blessing support for Premier Fouad Saniora's unconstitutional government, particularly that it has assumed the powers of the President of the Republic. Aoun charged that the state of war (US-Israeli war in August 2006) "persists and we still live it." He accused the ruling bloc of seeking a "president who would continue the war?and we would not accept such a president. We want a president to stop any war that is being planned." "Our political resistance and the military resistance safeguarded the country," Aoun stressed.

Gemayel, Geagea Retort at Aoun
Former President Amin Gemayel and Lebanese Forces chief Samir Geagea have hit back at accusations made by MP General Michel Aoun that the two March 14 leaders had "blocked the Bkirki meeting" that had been aimed at achieving consensus among Christian leaders on a presidential candidate.
"If we go over the most recent statements made by the French and Egyptian presidents as well as Russian officials, we know that the opposition and Syria, not the majority, are responsible for obstructing the presidential elections," Gemayel said Monday.
Geagea, in turn, criticized Aoun, saying he wished that the former army general "had relieved us on New Year's Eve from his theories and tampering." He pointed out that Maronite Patriarch Nasrallah Sfeir had called for a broad Christian meeting "but Aoun did not accept." Geagea expressed dismay "because Syria has a clever spokesman," a reference to Aoun.
