The Quran in Surah Nisa, mentions "Marry two, three or four and if you fear you cannot do justice between them, marry only one". The condition of allowing it, is relating to justice - in equal time and money. Wives have the right to separate dwellings and to have their rights fulfilled. Its an immense responsibility for men which is probably why so few choose it.

Nowhere, have I seen that the prophet pbuh said you will only be able to love one woman.

Polygyny is meant for practical purposes - for the protection and welfare of women. Even, in many developed societies, where there is no war, there is still more women compared to men. In the US, there are 8m more women than men. That means if every single man got married (which would never happen, due to the number of men in prison, who are gay, unemployed, etc) there would be 8m women forced to be single and childless. Polygyny allows a safety net for society, by giving women greater choice of men, while Islam ensures that their rights are fulfilled. We see in our own societies, the number of women forced into prostitution or women who cannot find husbands because of the lack of men.

So I challenge anyone who says it is not permissible, to go back and actually understand what was meant. I am commenting not because I desire polygyny, but simply its a VERY dangerous path when we start making the halaal into haraam, and vice versa as the nations before us did.
